I will never forget back in the late 50's making the mistake of calling my Dad ...Daddy O....Yikes ! , I learned real quick that was not accepted....Now I find myself getting sick of hearing the term " Dude " ...it is all over TV programs and in real life....so far I have not been called Dude yet....but I will try and contain myself if and when it happens....

Am I the only one ?:confused2:

Yes, it's right up there with buddy and pal. I'll let it slide, but will note the attitude of disrespect for future reference. I heard a similar address earlier today at the end of a phone conversation. Funny but I don't recall the exact word, just the person who said it.
Perhaps the correct response to such an address would be " yes son"

I couldn't agree with you more. I'm sick of hearing too. If I ever hear anyone say it, I'm real quick to let them know that there are NO Dudes around my place.

If the worst thing in my life is being called dude then I'll count my blessings and get on with my life. It's just a slang term that's thrown around today and most don't mean disrespect using it. I'm sure you meant no harm when you called dad daddy-o

I agree, I think there are worse things to be called.

However I do see the point about some slang terms that I find just absolutely absurd and get rather annoyed hearing them. I don't necessarily find them disrespectful, just annoying.

Yeah, I know we have to roll with the punches...go along to get along...but still..., I mean ...Dude ? I am 67 yrs. old, maybe I should take it as a compliment if and when someone calls me Dude...? :laughing: Sure is different than the yes sir or mam that I was brought up saying....

I'd take "dude" over "homey" not even sur how to spell homey:D There was a movie (old one) with John Wayne where he was called "one fine "dude" so in that perspective, that's good company.

Sounds like a serious generation gap. Wife's grandson got fired for calling customers DUDE. He was told it was YES MAM or YES SIR and nothing eles. I totally agree.

I'm 63 and have both used and been called dude without thinking too much of it. It may have been that I worked around younger folks my whole life. Didn't happen in the Army, then it was normally just Chief, whether the person was a superior officer or most of the veteran NCO's.
