If you have the Duetz diesel 1101/2011? And maybe others, I would check the fuel return lines for slight leaks/wetness.
I had a small pin hole leak in the number 1 return line and it was spraying fuel into the engine bay.
Only reason I noticed it was because I was checking for something else and I saw wetness sitting on top of the oil cooler housing when I opened the engine cover. The wetness was deisel fuel.
Cleaned it off and let everything cool down then ran the engine and I saw a little fuel spraying out of the return line from a pinhole leak.
NOT GOOD! Seems this happens when the lines get older. Mine return line tubing definitely looks worn/frayed.
Would recommend checking and replacing if your return line is older.
Kit for 99.00 from Foley engines has all the barbs and the proper fuel line.
I hope my barbs are ok and I just bought the return line off ebay for 12.00. (Tee vw fuel line 3.5mm diesel yellow stripe braid injector TDI return GERMAN oem)
Hope this might help someone else in the future.
