I think my shutoff solenoid is starting to intermittantly fail.
The fuel shutoff lever is not moving. I am working through my possible fuel delivery issue and this may be another possible problem. This solenoid may be partially failing and causing the fuel rail to intermittantly move into on/off position giving me my interrmittant fuel supply problem?
Question is which direction is on and which is off for the fuel for the manual shutoff lever?
The photo indicates where the manual shutoff lever stays now if the ignition is turned on or in the off position. Lever does not move with key switch.

If I move the bottom part of the manual lever away from the oil filler spout (move the hole portion of the shutoff lever away from the oil spout toward the limit screw to the right) is that supposed to be the on or off fuel position?
In other words, is the lever position next to oil spout "fuel open" and lever position away from oil spout "fuel off" or vice versa?

Once I know the correct positions, I can manually test to see if this is part of my fuel delivery problem.

I believe that the 1011 and 2011 engines are the same in this regard. You need to move the bottom of the lever backward, I.e. away from the oil filter. Here is an excerpt from the 2011 manual to illustrate it. You want to look at the small lever #2, not the throttle lever #1, which has a cable on it for the PTs.

The lever is strictly for manual shutdown. It does not move under normal conditions- unless you move it. I hope that this helps.

All the best,

Peter

Not understanding the operation of the solenoid in relation to the manual shutdown lever?

The diagrams seem to indicate that the moving the manual shutdown lever position away from the oil spout is the correct start/run position and when the shutdown lever position is toward the oil filter it is the shutdown position?

My solenoid either does not move the manual lever at all or when it does work it kicks the shutdown lever slightly towards the oil filter (which per the diagrams means it is moving the manual shutdown lever towards the shut down condition?). My manual shutdown lever seems to stay about in the middle or slightly towards the oil spout when the solenoid kicks it in that direction upon starting.
The solenoid has an arm on it which I believe activates and connects to the manual shutdown lever itself. I don't understand your statement that the shutdown lever does not move with the solenoid because I thought the solenoid is just activating the manual shutdown lever? The lever must be in contact with the solenoid somehow because to overide the solenoid when you physically move the manual shutoff lever yourself you are overriding the solenoid.

I am thinking of using a wire to hold the shutoff lever in the correct run position (away from the oil spout?) and seeing if that fixes my engine slowing down then shutting down issue.

In rereading my first post, it is terrible. My apologies.

The manual shutoff lever is the upper, small lever handle. The top of the lever pivots toward the oil filter to shut down the engine. Mine is heavily spring loaded. The moment that it is released, it springs away from the oil filter toward the back of the tractor to the "start/run" position. The lever doesn't move with the fuel solenoid cycling.

Does this help, or should I post photos?

All the best,

Peter

Well I am making progress.
On my machine the manual shut off condition is away from the oil filter spout. This is opposite what the Deutz manual states so that is not cool. Lever toward the oil spout my Deutz it starts and runs, move manual shutoff lever away from oil spout it shuts down.

So either the manual is wrong for my engine or someone has jacked up the lever inside somehow. Might want to check that lever position if you have an issue with a Deutz 1011f. Photo shows run position:

Using a wire is what I do for holding the spring loaded shut off lever for whenever changing the hydraulic filter. So, your right with what you were saying. Use wire, string, or something else to hold it away from your oil spout so that you can crank your engine without it starting.

It took me a while to figure things out with the Deutz. The fellas on here helped me out. I値l take a picture of that wire I made up, tomorrow.

The fuel shut off lever on mine is in the opposite direction from yours. Mine is also a 31hp, so that could be why they are different? Here are the pictures. You can use either method for shutting off the fuel; unhook the plug or hold back that lever with something. I hope this helps.

Interesting, your 3l has the lever arm with hole above the central axis shaft rotation point and my 4l is below the axis shaft.
The actual effect is the same: direction of rotation of axis shaft counter clockwise till bumpstop is stop motor, and clockwise rotation to bumpstop is run condition.

Must be a a wicken version.
