I just read about how Deepndirt towed a 13'x5' trailer with his tractor. Would it be criminally stupid of me to haul my (1800-2000lb) 16' equipment trailer around my somewhat hilly 5 1/2 acres with the 2210D?? It seems like the perfect thing to load with brush or large stones. It also seems like it could be disastrous if it goes bad. What's the verdict? I can't wait to hear!! :)

I have pulled a 16' flatbed around in the woods with firewood on it with my 2002d. Was just using a 3 point drawbar and learned I could overload the 3 point by loading the front first. As far as braking or pulling I did not have any problems. I really don't have a clue what my trailer weighs. It is 16' x 76" inside with wrap around tongue and 2" pipe rails around it. Double 3500# axles. Was pulling trailer with around 3/4 cord of oak wood. Proper loading of trailer important.

Stormpetrel, how are your brakes?

My watering rig is 2300 lbs fully loaded. The YM240 (slightly smaller than your YM2210D) is just sufficient to pull it around on sloping disced ground.

I see in this old photo that I added the QuickHitch for ballast after attaching the trailer directly to a ball on the towbar under the differential. This ballast was to improve traction on the rear axle - there aren't any brakes on the front axle and the rear end felt light with no implement back there.

Ideally I should pull this trailer behind the box blade. That would ballast the tractor properly - and give me one heck of an emergency brake if I ever had to drop it! Even with 4x4 it would be easy to jackknife this trailer with that much weight pushing the tractor.

That said, my little YM186D also pulls the watering rig ok but sometimes that can't make an uphill turn in disced ground, it just plows straight ahead.

If I attached your trailer I wouldn't carry more than fluffy brush, harvest ladders, etc, but not significant weight.

I would say a 2000 lb trailer loaded might be a bit hard to maneuver, I'm sure it would pull it flat out, but pulling while turning and on hilly terrain might pose as a bad situation, My trailer is not as heavy as what your trailer would be (Loaded),
and has no problem pulling it fully loaded, I also have a FEL that holds the front down, I usually do not pull this 13 ft trailer with the tractor but I made an exception for this event and did several pulls before I actually had people load into it, plus I pulled in low low gear,
I do have another smaller 4 x 8 trailer I pull with it for use around my property, in this picture you can see the size of trailer compared to my old kubota, the yanmar I have now is a little larger than the kubota, so the trailer doesn't overwhelm the tractor as one might would have thought, and by the trailer being dual axles it wasn't really an issue as far as need to distributing out the weight, Oh! and I did adjust the breaks before doing this...and do have the ball connected to a Box scrap just as California mentioned, I would say no to a loaded 2000 lb 16 ft. trailer on hills, BTW I tow a trailer of some sort every day for the past 30 years, you might say one stays connected to my truck always;) although of course I don't drag them through Mud in the dark:D

For the few months I had my L2800 in town I put a ball in my bucket and moved my 30' aluminum skiff up the hill to the shop to put a new motor on and back down no problem. Wouldn't have wanted to try it on the ice but on the dry it did fine. It was a triple axel trailer but I load the skiff forward so had about 800 lbs tongue weight and grabbed a 200+ lb burl with the backhoe before I did it. Good Luck

That's pretty funny...hope you didn't get hurt or anything. If I was younger, I'd load that puppy up, wouldn't give it a second thought. But I kept having this little voice in the back of my head, saying "you oughta check w/someone before you kill your fool self!" :)

6wks. under sadation in ICU. then a few more in recovery. I'm like you wouldn't think twice about trying it in my younger days but found out the hard way I'm not as young as I use to be.
That is why I will state Safety First. Most of us on TBN are Older and we need to be more careful we won't get over it like we use to. ;)

stormpetrel,I've used my 16' hauling locust post out of my woods with my 1610d,I used the stock hitch that goes under the rear end.Haven't used it many times because of turning etc. Most of the time I use a smaller trailer I built. russ
