Being just an occasional hobby welder I have seen anti-splatter but do not know it's exact use or what it does. I presume it keeps the little splatter balls from sticking but how do you use it so it's doesn't affect weld quality? If it can keep splatter from sticking can it keep the weld from sticking? As well, is it a reliable product and is it widely used in the welding trade? Any advice helpful.

You spray it on the nozzle or around the workpiece where the spatter sticks. It doesn't affect the weld at all as long as you don't pool it in one spot. Try not to breathe the fumes, it gives me a wicked case of heatburn.
I find for the nozzle tip dip works better but if you go that route, run a couple of inches of weld on scrap before you start on the workpiece.....Mike

Anti Spatter's vary in makup and where to use. Tip Dip is easy and does a good job. Some like spray on and it does a fair job too. If you want to keep spatter beads from sticking to your work there are sprays made just for that. Try Protex by Arc Air. It's made for protecting your work.

You can also use it on your clamps and fixtures too.

I'm going to try the tip dip. How long does it last and how often do I dip? How much stays on and does it stay only on the tip itself?

The nozzle dip last a long time. Depending upon the brand the consistency can range from vaseline to jelly. You dip the nozzle as you need it. The greater the heat you run, the more you
will need. However, don't overdo it, or it will end up causing porosity in the weld as it gases off.

I like the spray for keeping it off other stuff. I use it on all my welding tables, and sort of polish it in with an old cloth. It keeps surface rust off as well. My tables have that burnished shine to them.

You dip the complete end of the gun in, nozzle and tip. Warm it up first by running a couple of inches of weld and dunk it a couple of times. Like I has said in my previous post, run a bead on scrap first to burn off the excess....Mike

Thank you.

Pam no stick kitchen spray works great too as an anti-splatter ! cheaper too !!

Pam cheaper? A tub of nozzle dip costs about $5.00 and will last 10 times longer than a can of Pam. The spatter spray is about $6.00 but there is some more expensive stuff.
