I worked most of Saturday with the 1430 when I saw a large T- storm coming. Went to start the tractor and nothing. Acted like a dead battery but I found when the igintion switch was turned the lights were bright so the battery was probably ok. The storm is now very close and I am a mile from house. Has my starter gone bad? Finally notice the PTO switch was in the on position. Got back to the house just as the storm hit with 60 mph gust on my wind gauge.

The PT worked like it was designed to work but the operator was DUMB.

:) :) I won't talk about how many times the neutral safety switch prevented me from starting one of my garden tractors over the weekend...

Strangely, I've used the PT more in TN than I've used the Simplicity in MA this year so far -- I wasn't thinking about moving gearshifts in order to start the machine...

That's a lesson best learned by experience. I'd been working hard for hours, ran out of gas, hiked up and back for a jerry can.... then "no start". Dang.

Let it cool down some more. Back up for a refreshment. Back down to the PT. Then noticed the PTO switch 'on'.

Did that during my first month of ownership. Hasn't happened again.

Anybody here learn that by reading the manual or these forums? If so, did it sink in as well as it did by learning it the hard way?

OK, we could put a buzzer across the contacts of the PTO switch that disable the starter. Then when you turned the key to start with PTO switch on the buzzer would buzz and tell you you are dump. Actually I would use a sonalert.

Yes, you are dumb! :p

I, on the other hand, am not dumb.

I was not dumb when I put a hole in the side of my garage with my toothed bucket.

I was not dumb when I bonked my head on the canopy.

I was not dumb when I raised the bucket too fast with a full load of sand and dumped it on my lap.

I was not dumb when I lifted my 48" brush hog with my hands and rolled it off a sidewalk edge onto my bare feet in sandles.:eek::eek:

I was not dumb when I grabbed the hot hydraulic disconnects with my bare hands to remove the finish mower immediately after mowing.:eek::eek:

I was not dumb when I used the engine cover as a step ladder and stepped on the cooling fan.

You should be too embarrased to tell us when you do dumb stuff like leaving a switch on. :D
