Dumbo here lost a chuck key - please help to find an equivalent

The chuck key got caught in some swarf, got flung across the shed and has simply disappeared - defying all efforts to find it.

The chuck is marked "Czechoslovakia - MAS B16 Part number 241820 It has a 13 mm capacity and a 6 mm pin

No Jacobs key will fit and I'm not sure a Rhom S2 will either (though I have ordered the latter). Got an email back from Germany where MAS was listed on the website but they reckon their's will not fit

Anyone know what might be an equivalent please? It is an old but excellent machine and I do not want to have to find a new chuck for it

This happened to me last week, but i knew the general direction it flew in, but man.....took a while to find it because i have to much junk laying on the floor. Ended up moving stuff and found it eventually. It is now painted yellow. Thinking on attaching a chain or wire to it....
Keep looking. You know it's there!

Search for "chuck key holder" on Amazon.com. That will get you a bunch of neat holders and also several "universal" chuck keys to look at.

I use a cheap metal detector to find "lost" bits & pieces.

stick a punch in the hole and a flat blade screw driver to lever against the teeth. I have not tried that so.....

The key was hanging onto the drill frame by a wire - the whole lot went ta-ta.It may not even be on the floor because it was airborne. Pete is dead right and the yellow paint is a great idea. His shed must look like mine, but others need to see my shed to appreciate the practicality (or lack of it) to find anything with a magnet. A flamethrower might be more useful.

Actually, I have made a key by grinding down the pin of a Jacobs key to fit the chuck, but the teeth are different - so it only sort-of works.This is of course only a temporary fix, as is the use of two pliers.

So no-one knows what a MAS chuck is like?

I suspect B16 is the taper designation. Any other make B16 1/2 in-13mm chuck will fit.

I feel your pain, although not as difficult to replace I lost the retaining nut (LH threads) to my string trimmer in my garage. I heard it drop and knew the direction it took by the sound but I was unable to locate it. I moved everything in the garage and was unable to find it. Luckily I was able to find a replacement at the big box store. I hated paying their price for a pre-packaged nut, the local fastener store doesn't carry LH threads which was nice to find out. I also paint easily lost items blaze orange after losing the wrench for my chainsaw out in the woods.

Over the years I have found that the best way to find something is to look where you haven't looked yet. The point being that you believe it is not there so you don't look. I know it sounds kinda weird, but it has worked over and over to find things that seem to have vanished.
