I have a 6x12' tandem 10k dump trailer with 24 inch sides, and an 18' tandem 14k tilt/equipment trailer, both weigh about 3k.
I live in the hurricane prone gulf coast. Both trailers are under a carport and the wheels remain chocked, but do they need to be strapped to the ground, or just have the tongue lowered when a hurricane is approaching? I'm only finding info on securing travel trailers and RVs, nothing on utility type trailers.
I realize nothing is going to stop tornado damage, just looking for hurricane wind protection up to 140mph or so.

If you have the opportunity to pour a slab to park your trailers on, I'd embed recessed tie downs into the concrete. However, I don't know of any one (including me) who considered this before pouring concrete. Next option would be earth auger style anchors. Whatever you came up with for securing RVs should work for utility trailers also. Another thing to consider is whether the carport will collapse on them.

Strap them! If wind gets under them, the big flat surface will act as a sail.

And I been going to hurricane areas with a 45 cubic yard dump trailer cleaning debris.
