I'm in need of a trailer to tow my tractor. I've also been looking at dump trailers for use on my farm.

Does anyone know if it's viable to use a dump trailer to also transport a tractor?

I have a 16' Cross Country dump trailer. It came with barn style swing out doors and ramps. D-rings are welded to the floor for tie down points. I can haul my 36HP tractor with a box blade if I curl the bucket to full dump position or hang the bucket over the front. If it was any shorter than 16' I couldn't take an attachment. Your 49HP tractor may be longer than mine.

I don't use mine to haul the tractor because once loaded I have to get in the dump box to secure it to the D-rings and its tight quarters to do so. Fortunately I find it much easier and quicker to tie down the tractor and attachments on my 22' PJ tilt bed trailer.

If you need a dump trailer and can only afford one trailer a dump trailer will work. Just be aware that standard length (12-14') dump trailers may be too short to haul a tractor with attachments. With a 14'er you may have to hang the loader bucket over the front of the box. 16' dump trailers are not usually a trailer that is stocked and usually special ordered like mine was.

Thanks for the replies.

I think the dump trailer idea will not work. I was looking at an 18' dump trailer but with the weight of the dump trailer and tractor I'd be pushing the towing capacity of the truck. Guess I'll have to break down and buy 2 different trailers.

Of course with the added cost of a second trailer you could upgrade to a bigger truck instead.:)

Yes it will work but length is a big issue as has been posted.
Here is what I use for my mulcher transport. Thought about another flatbed but decided to have some inter-operability.

Length is the issue. A dump trailer long enough that it pushes your tow capacity to the limit with the tractor, is a waste. Won't be able to haul much material like dirt or stone either to take advantage of the dump feature.

Smaller lighter dump trailer will allow you to actually haul more material and less dead weight of the trailer and still keep total weight within reason. Then get an equipment trailer. For a tractor your size, if you plan on hauling a fel and an implement, a 20' or 22' trailer is what you want. Even 18' is too small imo
