I have been working on this trailer off and on all summer. I finally got it to a usable stage. It has a hydraulic cylinder that hopefully soon will be operational. I have most of the fittings I need to plumb up hydraulics on my Yanmar YM1500D. All the steel is scrap and salvage that I have been collecting. The wheels are 2 sets of Craftsman riding mower tires and wheels. They are have no bearings, so this is a low speed trailer. I have the stub axles bolted in so that when better wheels come along they can be easily replaced. The hydraulic cylinder is from a Yanmar loader. I got motivated last week to work on the trailer. My 3 year old daughter had a birthday party and we decided to give the kiddies a hay ride. So last week I did the final welding, painted the frame and bought the pressure treated wood for the decking. Attached is a picture.

Nice looking trailer. Do the axles float, (change up & down with the ground contour) or does the bed float.

No the axles do not move. There is no suspension what so ever. My wife pointed that out to me Sunday afternoon when she was riding with the kids in the trailer. I may upgrade it someday with axles and left springs and make it road worthy. Right now it is strictly a low speed off road trailer.

They might not be very common in your neck of the woods, but in New England, you can find old boat or snowmobile trailers all over the place that have rusted out so badly that they are no longer safe for the road. Look for something like that and salvage the springs and axles from them. Another thing to consider is the 1980's front wheel drive GM & Chrysler cars had a rear axle that would work. Just have to make some pockets for the coil springs.. Don't forget the shocks to keep Mama happy.... LOL.......
Great looking trailer.... sure wish that I learned how to weld well when I was a pup!!!!!..... too old to learn new tricks now...
