I have an old F600(1977) dump truck that leaks hydraulic fluid pretty bad. Not a huge deal, but I'd like to fix the seals if it's not a huge task and doesn't cost a lot. I have done a little bit of searching, but does anyone have any info on what kind of seals to look for or how much they cost? Difficulty? The pump has the pto shaft going to it from the transmission and just below it, it has a short shaft coming out but it's not driving anything. Both seals look to be leaking pretty bad and both look to be about an inch having not mic'd them. I really need to go wipe off the gunk to see if I can find the exact model pump, but was just hoping for a general idea of what's involved.

So its leaking from the pump? If so I would think you could take it off, clean it up, and find a make and get the proper seals. Another route would be to take it off and remove the seals and take them to a shop and have them matched up.

Make of the truck has nothing to do with dump beds. They are all aftermarket.

Good luck, the extra shaft you spoke of is for reversing the pump .

I finally got tired of trying tofind parts for mine and just ordered a new dump truck pump that I have yet to put in.

Most of those had a little 3 bolt seal retainer and a little cupped seal that went in there, I never had any luck with mine, and just finally came to the conclusion it was too far gone. Let me look and see if I have some extra seals left and you can have them if I have any.

Many, Many, many hydraulic systems of that era came with that pump and I find it hard to believe that there are not more available and parts, but I never had any luck finding direct replacements. When I spoke with hydraulics and pump folks they all seemed to look at me like a hog looking at a wristwatch, but when I climb under a truck from the 60's to 70's with a hydraulic system they all seemed to have the same one.

Let me know Alan B. It's not a huge deal but it'd sure be nice for it not to leak and also I do worry about letting it go too long and not being able to raise it and therefore refill it. It looks like is has big brass screw rings that go over the shaft and screw into the pump to tighten the seal. Don't know if that sounds familiar or not.
