I have this nearly finished. It started out life as a 58 ford f-600 and after the last million miles it ended up a trailer. I put the extension to haul grain.I have had 9 ton of rock on it before the changeover to trailer status.I have yet to try it out as a trailer. I did pull it around the block empty to see how it pulled. I added the front axle last week and I still have to finish the air over hydraulic brakes. Both axles have the original hydraulic brake setup I added the oe master cylinder in the frame rail pushed by a air brake piston off the front of a 64 gmc tractor truck. I have an 12v solenoid double valve to control the brakes from the truck with a pushbutton and a toggle switch. I have an air tank off another truck mounted on the tongue for the brakes. The first tests show it needs less than 50 lbs of air to stop the trailer.Sliding the tires when empty. And barely any air volume. I still have to find a regulator so I can adjust how much brakes it applies..The original pto driven hoist is powered by a starter motor and V belt. The front axle is mounted 3/4 inch higher than the rear and the front axle does not have the over load pads installed, this is to give tongue weight when loaded. I'll try to post some follow ups after I haul the first load with it hopefully next week.

Those two pictures look amazingly similar. Unless you have two identical trailers. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Awesome looking trailer. I bet it would haul quite a load.

It didn't work out as I had hoped. The rear axle was original to the old truck and the front axle was from a donor that was identical. What I failed to think of is that the donor axle was from a grain truck that had not been abused as much as the dumptruck axle ,When he loaded the gravel the front grain truck axle and springs held firm and the old abused dumptruck axle and springs sagged lifting my pickup nearly off the ground. No big deal ,I just have to swap the axles and springs. That'll be easy since they are the same. I raised the tongue up and got it home with a light load of 3 3/4 tons.

How do you mean, swapping the axles and springs ? Are you going to get new leafs ?

I dont know how many leafs of different lengths are under it, but if there are, for example, four on each side, you could swap two leafs from the rear axle to the front axle, and vice versa... This wont make it 50/50 but i think it will make enough difference to drive smooth..

Nice dumper.. i could use one hauling scrap iron to the city... But my European car cant pull a big dumper like yours... Think about what would happen if i'd put that gooseneck on my trunk... teared apart like a tincan.. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Be careful with that trailer. When loaded you might have a hard time turning it as those tandems are going to want to go straight. With that short a tongue the pulling truck doesn't have much leverage for turning, in a tight turn on pavement it might want to show that 1ton some new tricks. A full load on those tandems would be around 34000. As you have already found out, be sure that the truck gets some weight on it too. While making good use of an existing hydraulic system, I think you are hooking a mouse to an elephant.
