I was thinking seriously about buying a Duramax as I posted a few months a go, but we got busy with harvest and I haven't had time to look around for awhile. Last night I noticed in town diesel was 80 cents higher then regular unleaded. I don't know if this a passing thing or is it going to stay this way. Is everyone seeing this in your area. It doesn't make sense to me. Gas seems to go down a couple of cents and diesel raises a couple.

It's happening all over, I've never heard a reasonable explanation for the difference.

Gas dropped to $2.39.9 at one station near the house. Diesel is $3.21. Currently, offroad diesel is $3.10 here. Makes no sense at all.

We went to buy a new matress last night. According to the store manager, Hurricane Katrina caused matress prices to jump 40%. (It was explained to me that the ingredience for making matress foam all come from plants in the New Orleans area.) Sounds like BS to me.

At the present time, Illinois, Iowa, etc. are in the middle of the annual corn harvest.

Low supply and high demand means elevated prices until there is a high supply and low demand, then prices will fall.

BTW, from what I understand, somewhere around 20% of this year's corn crop is being condemned for elevated levels of carcinogenic aflatoxin as a result of this years extreme drought.

Grain elevators are rejecting newly harvested corn from many farms now in Indiana and Ohio, in addition to Iowa, Illinois and Missouri. That is bad news..... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Even clear up in Washington where we supposedly do not use the gulf regions petroleum the diesel price has gone up to 3.19 and stayed there while gas has fallen back to 2.62 this morning. Right now I am pretty glad I drive a gas pickup and a diesel tractor.

One station near me has gas for $2.49 and diesel for $3.49. Who would have thought that diesel would be $1.00 more than gas?

When I bought my diesel truck in July 2004, diesel was $.10 to $.15 cheaper than regular gas. About 3 months later, diesel was as much or more than premium. About a month ago, diesel was cheaper than regular again. Now it is higher than premium again. Diesel and gas prices don't move in parallel for some reason. I don't think anyone can tell you where it will be next week / next month / next year. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Here is a article sent out by JD. It may be one of the reasons that diesel is so high. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I just paid $3.37/gal about an hour ago. I don't get it, unless it is simple supply-demand. I wonder if all the heavy equipment cleaning up after Rita & Katrina is the blame - - whatever, someone's getting rich[er] off this.

The price difference was in play before Katrina and Rita. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
