I just wanted a bigger unit.. cant wait till another outage..
The ENTIRE point of buying and maintaining an emergency generator is to influence the cosmos so you WON'T have to use it.

I bought one just after a tropical storm knocked out my power for a few days (and some of my coworkers for weeks) about 17 years ago. Prior to that we would routinely get a few outages per year each lasting less than 8 hours. SWMBO would go around the house lighting candles and spend the hours worrying about food thawing. While I worried about her burning down the house.

Since then we've had 1 storm that knocked out the power for a few hours and I ran the generator for the refrigerator and freezer. for about a half hour.

So the generator has worked well for that :)

On the other hand the Duromax I bought in 2015 and put at the house I own and my son and family live in has been run several times for long term power outages. That house is just outside the Washington Beltway so it's not a "rural thing".

I wouldn't wish for a outage to use it :)

We use to get outages almost every week or several x a month.. I live around a vacation spot so the infrastructure wasn't there..
BUT NOW, as more people move out this way, the power that be, HAD TO improve it & the outages are few & far between..
It use to be.. I would look at the 10 day forecast & see weather or not the wind was gonna blow over 15 mph.. IF SO, I would pull out the genny & prepare for an outage.. NOW> a 30mph wind is nothin'.. not even a light flicker..

That's what I thought when I got my 10 KW diesel unit. Seems I summoned the stars to inflict outages on us. Have logged 50+ hours in less than a year. 7 hours yesterday. Our area reported over 4600 without power and they said less than 400 still out an hour before ours was restored.

My MEP-803A surplus unit kept everything we needed running on less than half it's 9 gal tank. We ran our 3.5 ton AC, stove top, well, water heater, dishwasher, lights, and tv.
