Case DX33
I recently bought a Case DX33, same thing as a NH TC33. So not knowing when the tractor was serviced last I thought it would be a good idea to do a full service. So I drain all the fluids change all the filters and go to fire it up, started fine but started running rough and died after a few seconds. Having changed the fuel filter I figured it probably needed primed. So after several tries at getting fuel to the injectors with only a small amount of fuel coming out and the battery starting to get low I figure well maybe I'll just try to speed this up a bit. So I break out the old can of starting fluid, I hate using it but figured maybe a little squirt would get things going. Well I proceeded to strip the starter for sure and hopefully that's all. I pulled the glow plugs and it spins over freely so now I'm just waiting for the new starter to get here. But I was trying to figure out why it was taking so long to prime in the first place and only thing I can think of is that since i changed the hydraulic oil also and since the injector pump runs off that rather than engine oil does that system need primed as well or is that self priming? Regardless fingers are crossed until the new starter shows up that there's not a bent connecting rod in there.

Welcome to TBN. I'm a bit cautious when doing this stuff, but I usually do one thing at a time, i.e. change the fuel filter, make sure everything works, then change the motor oil, then change the hydraulic fluid, etc. Too late for that approach, though.

Anyway, send me a PM if you can. I know where to get a PDF copy of the service manual for these machines.

How were you bleeding the air from the fuel system? We're you just turning the engine over or did you open up the bleed screw?

Need to use the bleed screw if you didn't. If you did then there may be some other fuel supply issue because every time I opened up the bleed screw the fuel had a significant flow.

Fuel shutoff above the filter is opened back up? Junk in the tank (could test by taking the filter bowl back off and opening up the valve), maybe a bad filter but I kind of doubt it.

Thanks for the replies guys, yes I definitely should have just taken it one thing at a time no excuse. Bill when it first died I tried just turning it over a couple times thinking that it might prime itself since the fuel tank is higher than the pump. Once that didn't work I tried opening one of the fuel lines at the injector (at the time I didn't realize that the bolt on the fuel line at the injector was a bleed screw) but the battery was starting to get weak by that point so it wasn't cranking very hard, that's when I had the brilliant idea to try starting fluid and then it quickly stripped the internal gears on the starter. Its terrible just having to sit here and wait until the starter gets here to be able to see if its ok.

I suppose one thing at a time is best but I never do it that way either.
FYI I never had to re-prime the injector pump of my TC-35 after any fluid changes during its 1000 hours with me.

Good luck there, Let us know how it turns out.
