I have a new-to-me DX55 with approx 300 hours on it. Well maintained by previous owner, who was a Case mechanic leasing this tractor for his farm. Tractor has shuttle shift.
I started noticing that, when i was going up or down inclines with a load on the FEL, the tractor would slip out of gear. I am not touching the clutch at this point, and I am using the foot throttle pedal normally. I noticed it first when taking a load downhill...I would be in gear, and expecting the engine and gear to hold the tractor back from free falling down the incline. Without touching anything, and without hearing anything unusual, the tractor starts to pick up speed (no increased engine rpm's) from free-falling down the hill. It is identical to what you would expect if you suddenly pushed the clutch in. When I stop free-falling, i put my foot on the foot throttle pedal and the engine rev's, but it is no longer in gear. The "FORWARD-REVERSE" shuttle shift selector is still firmly in FORWARD position. In order to get back in gear I have to clutch in, go to neutral on the shuttle shift, and then back to FORWARD on the shuttle shift to get the gear in.
Last night I was dragging a chained log with the FEL up a hill in REVERSE and it slipped out of gear the exact same way.
Any clues?
