E-collar AKA "cone of shame" for you dog

Had to run this girl to the vets Saturday night for some sutures.



Luckily, even though the inflatable e-collar would genearlly be too small for her, the cut was under her front left leg, and even with the smaller inflatable collar (we used for another smaller dog), she still can't get to her wound.

We've used a bunch of the old plastic "cone of shame" e-collars for dogs, and overall, they are a pain IMO for both the dog and the people in the house:laughing:

If you're ever needing an e-collar for your dog, I highly reccomend getting one of these inflatable models. Biggest advantage is it really doesn't obstruct your dogs peripheral sight at all and "freaks" them out a lot less.

My lab just had a similar surgery done to remove a huge lipoma from underneath her right foreleg. e-collar (Elizabethan collar) was clumsy but workable. Hard for her to eat and drink from a bowl. I'm now using a T-shirt to cover her stitches. Legs in the arm sleeves and a rubber band around a knot to keep the back tight. We have a puppy that liked to bite her neck area and the T shirt seems to repel that idea.

For the extra $5, you're dog will love you and your wood furniture takes a lot less "hits"

Hmmmm - - I've never seen the inflatable collar before. Something worth remembering out here in the country. Old nasty half buried barbed wire can cause some nasty tears on dogs legs and feet.

Our vet had us put an old t-shirt on the dog to keep him away from front half of the body sutures. I’ll keep the inflatable idea in mind too

there really isn't a good solution if you have a determined dog......the inflatable ones I know wouldn't last five minutes with our girl.....she'd be at it with her rear paw scratching at it until she burst and shredded it.......the cones are the same.....had a kuvasz who figured out that if he ran at the corner of the couch hard enough he could either destroy the cone or break it off.......either way he was rid of it.......of course for us the end result was the couch flying across the room.......when our girl was neutered they had to put her in a full body wrap to keep her away from the stitches.......and with a wolfhound that is a lot of wrap.....lol.......looked like a mummy........Jack
