What the flying frog is the easiest way to reinstall a PTO shaft when you remove it to service the deck? How are you people doing it? I'm struggling every time I do one. Seems like there is just not enough room to get at it.:confused3:

Jabonee, it is a real pain sometimes. I have a Max 28 and best way I have found is to make sure the deck is on a surface where the blades can rotate easily. I lay down behind the tractor and rotate the shaft a little at a time until the splines mesh and slide onto the PTO shaft. Obviously you have to pull back on the spring loaded collar as your doing this. I actually have a harder time hooking up the brush hog to the back PTO! Hope this is what you were referring to and my explanation was helpful. Good luck!

Thanks Dave. I've tried it from the back of the tractor but I always have the front up in the air. I will try it with all wheels down, mower down and see what happens.

Dave is right on. It is a bit of a pain. I do it from the back of the tractor. Wheels and mower are down. I'm right-handed, so I lay on my right shoulder or back and can get it most of the time one-handed. Plays **** on my rotator cuff that way. Otherwise I'm on my belly doing it two-handed. Much easier on the flat concrete floor so the blades/shaft can be rotated slightly till the splines line up. Doing it on the grass makes it easier to drive on/off the deck, but aligning the splines is a different story.
