Just thought I'd share this pic I got a couple of mornings ago. The Wallace River, where I now live, has an abundance of bald eagles, and they seem to be getting pretty used to me wandering around with my camera!

Hey Bill, the Wallace River has lots of different fish. Speckled and brown trout season opens April 15th and it's usually good for 6 weeks or so. Then the gaspereau move in en mass and the trout are hard to find. Gaspereau are kind of like mackerel but really boney, and since there are so many in the river, they churn up the mud and they're not great to eat. If you're quick, you can catch 5 or 6 in a net at one time. They're so plentiful, they are thrashing around along the shores all the time! The eagles like it at gaspereau time - just when their chicks are hatching, so there's lots of food.

For the rest of the summer, there's still speckled and brown trout, and the odd bass.

But then - then in October, is Atlantic salmon season. Salmon are fly-only, certain sizes only, and carefully regulated. They're in the river all year, obviously, but you don't dare catch and keep one of you don't want to end up losing your car or boat to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. I've never tried for salmon before, but plan to get a salmon license this fall and see what happens. The salmon have been in decline for several years but there seems to be quite a few in the river these days. Now, if we can just keep the seals away!

Ian,
Nice pic, I have a cottage on Cape John and we see the eagles there a lot as well as hawks, fox and deer. I see an eagle or two just about every day at home on the Shubenacadie river while I take the dogs swimming. I'm not a camera buff so I never get any pictures to share, only the ones that are shared on this site.

Thanks
Steve
