Yesterday I got to play for a minute on a new Cat 416 backhoe loader. Joy stick backhoe controls, tighter'n Dick's hatband, and turbo, love the sound and power of that turbo.

She was a delight. And I'll bet a the hole against the donut that I find an excuse to take her out on a "date".

You know Harv, I've always thought someone could make a killing by buying 100 acres of wasteland, some heavy equipment, a couple of bunkhouse trailers and rent out time to guys like us to play. Grab your favorite buddies and spend the weekend smelling diesel and moving dirt. Beers and steaks around a campfire at night reminiscing about it all.

'Course you're gonna have the experience and probably do something very useful with it so that's even better. Be sure to share your campfire stories with us /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That the 416D model with pilot hydraulics? I have the 416C model with wobble sticks. The integrated toolcarrier is a handy feature.

I use to do something similar to what you are describing.

One of my first jobs as a Military Instructor was to teach trainee equipment mechanics to maneuver the equipment they would be eventually repairing. We had a fairly large field at Ft Leonard Wood and a selection of D7's, Loaders, Scrapers, graders etc.. We gave a little classroom instruction of the various controls and then we just went out into the field and had a little fun with the equipment.

I asked bud about it last night.

It's a 420D with excavator controls. He says it's about a three grand option but one that's worth it. An excavator can crawl up on the tractor and instantly be productive. A wobble stick (two stick) will be productive almost as fast. And a three stick operator will adapt faster than going to wobble stick.

I felt I'd be getting after it real quick. It just makes sense the way they work. And the effort factor is nill.

And of course it's a Cat. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
