My friend was putting feed tubs out for his cattle in his F150 2wd with the eb engine. He manage to get off in a little mud, causing the truck to get stuck. Everytime he gave it gas, the engine would bog down. What is this? Is it tourqe management? Can it be tuned to eliminate this? This truck has pulled and hauled heavy loads with no problem and has been very reliable. Please, no Ford bashing. I would like to give him an idea of what is going on.

Traction control likely. Most times there will be a light that flashes on the dash indicating its active, will either cut engine power or apply brakes or both, depends on the manufacturer.

ps- There should be a button somewhere on the dash to disable traction control. This is what it sounds like whats happening. My toyota has it and its a pain in the *** when you're trying to fish tail around a corner and it doesnt allow you to.

Good point. Didnt think of that. My silverado has this (4x4) but i dont recall it bogging down when the light flashes. I will try to pay attention when it does it.

I also think it was traction control.

Like I said they sometimes do it differently between manufacturers where it may be more noticeable than others.

My Ranger will do the same thing, traction control. Can't even do do-nuts in an icy parking lot without turning it off (so they tell me :) )....mike

Yes, traction control. All vehicles have it now day and its just doing what it was supposed to do.

Thanks guys. I will forward this on to him. He loves this motor and was a little concerned when it did this.

I will give an example for two vehicles we own. We own a Dodge Challenger and a Chrysler 300 C. Both are autos and both have the 5.7 hemi. Both also have traction and stability control. The 300C's traction kicks in at very little wheel spin and it feels like the engine almost dies. The Challenger which is tuned for a little more spirited driving from the factory has to spin the tires pretty hard before the traction kicks in and when it does kick in, its not so abrubt.

All he has to do is push in his traction control button and hold it in for 5 seconds and it will turn off the option. It will automatically turn back on at a certain speed (sorry I forget what that is right now).
