Been reading all the spreader posts with interest. Here in N. Va, we dont get a lot of ice, but do occasionally. When we get it, used to use my lawn tractor (with chains) and pull my lawn spreader (brought from TSC) to put a little sand down. Note that I've never needed or used more than a half dozen or so bags of sand. Given my infrequent need of a spreader, it doesnt make real sense to buy a 3PH spreader, new or used.

So I came up with the idea of welding a tab on the back of my blade so that I could quickly and easily hook up the spreader, lay down a few bags, then unhook it.

Anyone done something similar?

Some people weld on a 2" receiver hitch. That gives you the flexibility of attaching nothing, a drawbar hitch, a carryall, boompole, or whatever. I plan to install one on my boxblade, so I can move the trailer if/when I need to.

Costs more, but gives you some flexibility.

Your tab idea will work fine.

Yes, I did the same thing. Works fine. Only bad part is that it is very hard to turn around in the limited space at the end of my drive. I usually have to unhook the spreader and then turn around.

I thought about welding a tab, or a receiver, but I couldnt come up with a location that I liked, or thought wouldnt be a problem if I used the blade backwards to push snow or dirt.

So I came up with an extension bracket for the spreader. It bolts up using the original bolts that hold the pieces together that the pin goes through. This way, I can easily unbolt it and take it off when I use with my lawn tractor (unless it doesnt interfer with anything).

I didnt paint it, cause I wanted to make sure it would hold when I actually used it, probably paint it this spring.

Here's a pic with it mounted. It uses one of the pin holes for the blade angle .

It also makes a good handle for moving the spreader around. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
