JMynes,

Sir, What type/brand/model of motor are you using for the rotation shaft?

Thank you

I think I'd foam the motor area, then paint over the foam to keep it from braking down.

I think most any window motor will work, as they have a gear reduction to make good torque and keep the RPMs reasonable.
I was going to use a motor I had kicking around for years, I think it was out of a Datsun (that should tell you how many years). Then I happened upon this motor at a yard sale, it looked a little bigger, and presumably more powerful. I don't know what application it's for, but here's the label on the box:

I'm planning to build a simple sheet metal box to keep the snow and rain off, but for now it's got a ziplock baggie over it.

Here's mine. Found 2- 12v motors on e-bay for $25.00 (figure I can't loose much $$ if it don't work;)). I was able to drill 3 holes in original hand crank bracket, build a sleeve to adapt to motor shank, and bolt her on. I can pull the motor and install the original hand crank in under 5 minutes if needed (since I didn't modify bracket or the crank tube), actually had to do that once when tractor kept blowing fuses, till I found better power source.
I use a single right/center/left switch to control motor, switch always returns to center. Never had icing or sticking issues in 2 yrs now.

jjmarotz,
Yours looks nicer than mine, I'm jealous!
I had to cut my hand crank tube so I could use the star gear at the end. And the support plate, to which I bolted the motor, wasn't square to the axis of the crank, so I had to weld in the 3/8 universal to keep the motor happy. I could switch back to hand crank by just welding the rest of the tube back on, but I hope it doesn't come to that.
As for the spout tilter, I got that linear actuator off of ebay. The original tilt adjustment was a simple piece of 1/4" bar stock with four holes in it that went between the two horns on the back of the spout and chute. To adjust the tilt, you pull the pin and select a different hole. I mounted the linear actuator so that the force of the snow would be pulling, rather than pushing on it. I don't know how much force that snow is going to have on the spout, but if my welded bolts break, or the linear actuator can't handle it, I can go back to the original set up. I hope it doesn't come to that, either.
