Would it be possible to control the spitter on my processor with some sort of electric over hydraulic valve? It would be much quicker if there was a button to activate my splitter out and back automatically that way I could advance the log and cut while its doing its own thing. I know prince makes a valve for this but wondered if there was another option. I have it set up to do so with some mickey mouse cables and pulley system now but it needs improvement.
Will post some pics later.
Thanks

Sure, if you know about relays, or electronics and logic circuits.

Using switching, relays, reversing switch and a solenoid valve .

Here is how it might work. once wired up.

Push a button/switch and the solenoid activates and extends the cyl. When the cyl hits a reverse switch, the cyl returns, and when the cyl is retracted, all voltage is removed.

You could also maybe put in a timer circuit, which will make the cyl extend and retract and keep extending and retracting until you hit the kill switch.

I believe they make cyls and circuity that know the position of the cyl at any time, and can tailor the circuit to do an automated function.

Like JJ said,
depends on sophisticated you want the system to be. You can buy cylinders with end of stroke sensors in them. These could be wired to operate cylinder one cycle or for continuous operation.

My concern is getting fingers in the way. Conventional system when it hurts you release the handle, auto stroke, do you have an e-stop option?

I may try to find a 2 way detent for the valve bank I have and rig it uo with linkage. It may be easier if I can locate the detent. The valve has a PH symbol on it with a square outline around the letters. I sent a pic to Parker Hydraulics to see if they can identify the beast. Yes it could be hard on the digits witn no emergency stop.

For a single cycle operation fwd and return to neutral, this valve is the way to go.

Surplus Center - 1 SPOOL PRINCE AUTO CYCLE LOG SPLITTER VALVE W/PB

If you want full automatic operation, that the cyl would go in and out by itself and keep cycling. Then electronics can do that, but you will sometimes have to wait on the cyl to return.

The one complete cycle auto valve does that at your pace.

When you are all set to split, push or pull the levers to start split mode, and then get the next log ready. It stops when you stop.

Looked at that one but can't get it in Canada anymore. Princess Auto pulled them all off the shelves a while back. Might have to make a run to the States.
Shipping and duty would be as much as the valve.

Is it not possible to load your log splitter on your truck and bring it with you and change it out over here, and drive back.

No can do but good idea. It's not just a splitter it's my wood processor built on a tandem trailer. The wife is going to Buffalo next weekend so I'm going to try to find somewhere near there and she can pick it up.
