Case 2090 Massey Ferguson 4233 John Deere 4700
Over the years I have owned several different John Deere tractors from farm to lawn and garden. It seems the one problem I have had with most of them not all of them is electrical. Today it was my 755. I started it up and headed to the fuel pump when all the sudden it died and was completely dead. After some looking around I found the plug in to the ignition was burnt. I put all new ends on it and it fired right up. I cleaned the battery posts on it 2 weeks ago when I serviced it and they are all ready corroded. It seems I go through a lot of batteries on that tractor too. My 4700 seems to have a corrosion problem too. I had to clean the battery posts on it just yesterday again. I have had to replace the connections on the light switch on the 755 more then once. Starters seem to be a problem on it too. My 322 Garden tractor I used to own was always burning off the plugs on the altenator. Our 4430 farm tractor we had was always going through altenators and we always had problems with the lights not working. We put a new wiring harness on it and it seemeed to help for a few years but then we were starting to have trouble again with it when we traded it off. My old 316 was another wiring night mare. We put 2 wiring harnesses on it. If it was not for wiring problems with all of them I could not really complain too much. Knock on wood we never have had any real big mechanical problems with them. Has anyone else experienced electrical problems with your John Deeres or is it just me.

It's just you. :D

I've had on/off issues with our 855, all electrical. It'll start doing some funky things when the battery terminals are corroded. Back in the fall the headlights stopped working. Turns out the connector in the fuse panel melted down. I spliced in a fuse to get my lights back but I really need to replace the fuse panel. The harness connector on the starter switch was rather dmaged from heat a year or so back, I assume some corrosion massivly increased resistance and thus heat.

Now that you mention it....
I have not had many problems with my 755 in the 8 or 9 years I've owned it, but most of them were electrical. I had a battery cable that was corroded inside the terminal. It looked clean but it wouldn't carry its load. I had burned and blown fuses, bad flasher, things like that.

I wonder if they have a problem with voltage regulation?

Several years ago I replaced the alternator when it failed, but have had no other problems.
