JD 2010 industrial loader
Good day,

I recently purchased a used tractor. The serial number is nowhere to be found. I have established it's a John Deere 2010 industrial loader backhoe. 1960-1965

The previous owner did a mess of the electrical. The ballast resistor, ammeter, neutral switch, generator light were all bypassed. The voltage regulator is nowhere to be found.

Can anyone provide me with a copy of the electrical diagram in order for me to repair the electrical.

Thank you
Marc

Have you looked under the dash for the VR? You must remove cowling(parts key 4) to access VR

I have removed the cowling as well as the gas tank. And I did not see the VR. I will probably need to purchase a replacement VR, but I am not sure of there is a specific type needed.

Ideally I would like to see a wiring diagram to ensure I connect everything as it should be.

Does it still have a generator or did he convert it to alternator.

That's a good point but if it was converted to alternator someone would have to really desire to remove VR as they're difficult to access

I would assume that it was converted to an alternator. I don't know if a generator looks different than a alternator. The device has a BATT connection and a #1 and a #2 connection.

A lot of things in the electrical system was bypassed therefore I would not be surprised that the VR would have been as well. Perhaps it's still there just that I didn't see it as no wires were going to any kind of square box.

If it was in fact converted to an alternator system how does that affect the way the electrical was originally supposed to be configured?

Ya, that does sound like an alternator, it has a built in regulator as opposed to an external regular.
The wires for the old regulator would no longer be needed.
Are those #1 and #2 terminals connected?

Yes they are, 2 goes to BATT and the - of the ammeter the other side of the ammeter I believe goes to the + of the battery. I am also not sure what gauge wires to use. #1 will go to the dash status light.

Does anyone have a schematic they can send me?

I'd like to ensure I fix it the correct way.

I noticed there is a neutral switch that was disconnected. Not completely sure where it goes in the circuit. Also the Ballast resistor, where it's supposed to go in the circuit and if there is a certain value.

thank you
Marc

What you likely have is a GM alternator. There are lots of sites which describe how to convert them to a simple installation which is all you really need.
Here is one of the sites:

Delco SI Alternator 1-Wire vs 3-Wire Explained
It basically requires an external jumper and then the alternator will start charging as soon as the engine starts.
The down side is no warning light to tell you it is not working.

Thank you for the information Dave.

I think my initial query has gotten confused. I am looking for a complete wiring diagram for the tractor. Ammeter, ignition switch, coil, fuses, Ballast resistor (value and location)....

Anyone have that?

Marc
