Morning Folks;

I finally picked up 1989 YM 180 D; very happy to have her and spent Sunday afternoon taking things apart and checking things out. I have many little questions ... newbie with some back yard mechanical knowledge ...

Generally the tractor looks like its in ok condition; some bent pieces but overall seems to run well.

There seems to be some electrical connections that need to be repaired.

There's a set of 2 wires coming out of a hex nut and ending at a plug with opposing prongs (looks like ie (-l) just in front of the main gear shift lever in the shift plate that doesn't seem to have a connection socket in the main wire area; I'm guessing its the transmission overheating indicator or is it a neutral switch?

Also the insturment panel is cracked and broaken; anyone repaired one; or have a spare to purchase? The main indicator lights are loose ...

after much poking around and glueing I managed to fix the instrment pannel;

Now for these wires; the horn doesnt work; and the rear singal lights dont work and the wires are missing; and the front left head light goes on but is very dim (i ssuspect the wiring has been rerouted and miss connected after the clutch was replaced) heres a pic of some dangling wires and a jumpered plug.

Also theres that mistry hex nut with wires comming out of it and a male end of a plug but no female receptical; any ideas folks? Im assuming the following.

Red; rear signal wire

Black; a ground for something

jumper wire in plug?

How many guesses do we get? :laughing: I'm guessing the hex nut with plug is for start safety switch either for the transmission being in neutral or the rear pto. Try putting an ohm meter on the terminals, move transmission from neutral to gear and see if you get continuity. Try the same thing with the pto. Looks like there ought to be some vacated terminals some where up in the dash for the red and black wires. Does your horn button have a wire going to it.

ohm meter ... right!; my electrical meter was stolen out of my garage with 1K of other tools in Dec when I was putting up the christmas lights ... so I cant test that at the moment ... but its a good guess.

Hex & plug; Oddly no vacent plugs; thats whats confusing; :confused2:

the horn button is connected to 2 wires; a green and black wire (I didnt check when I reconnected so It might be working now)

You need to order yourself a service manusal. You could have the only YM180 in the US.

yess... anyone have a a service manual for a 1800 D (4x4) series to share? please? pdf? photocopy?

I beleive the ym 1400 to 2200 (1600-1900 1800D; 1810; 1820 most similar) models would be very similar along with the 650; 755 & 850 JD's ...
