Greetings Gentleman,

My dad has had an odd issue regarding the PTO switch/lever/indicator light on his two year old eMax 25. This winter when he was out pushing snow with the front end loader the PTO "engaged" light would be on. He didn't have the mower deck mounted on the tractor and neither (mid or rear) PTO shaft was engaged. It was like this anytime the tractor was running. Also as best as I could tell the yellow push and turn on knob was always in the "off" position. Yesterday we put the MMM back on his tractor (but did not try it out ). Today he tried to help me mow the four acre church lot I mow before the rain came. Well when he tried to engage the mower deck nothing would happen. It would not turn on, and the PTO "engaged" indicator light was off now. My dad also tried to move the lever that selects either the mid PTO, both PTOs, or the rear PTO. The lever would not move at all.

Do any of you gentleman have an idea what the problem might be? I guess the PTO selection level could be it, but how can we get it back to necessary slot for the mower deck to engage. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. :)

Definitely give the linkage a generous spraying of some type of lubricant. There is likely some corrosion binding the works.

AchingBack, Any idea why the PTO indicator light would stay on even without the PTOs actually being engaged?

Definitely lube the linkage. As far as the light goes I'm guessing the PTO switch may be bad. Check the brake switch too. It interlocks with the PTO and may be why it will not engage. Is this unit parked outside? Mahindra wiring and water don't mix.

Thanks for the input Jabonee. No, the tractor stays parked in the garage at all times - so it isn't exposed to the elements except when in use. The tractor only has about 52.5 hours on it.

I would call your dealer and check to see if your tractor is still under warranty.

Greetings again everyone,

My dad had his eMax 25 HST tractor picked up yesterday by the dealership. The mechanic(s) checked it out and found a corroded terminal somewhere around the right fender area that leads to the rear/mid PTO on the tractor. If I understand it correctly the terminal created some extra resistance in the wire/circuit and caused the 7.5 amp fuse for the PTO to blow. They cleaned up the terminal (connection) and replaced the blow fuse. We got the tractor back today. I tried the deck out and it started up fine. It was a simple, no cost fix thankfully. :)

Before having the dealership pick up the tractor my dad and I took the deck back off the tractor and reinstalled it to see if this would fix the problem. Of course this didn't fix a corroded terminal or blown fuse, but the PTO section level freed up and would shift back and forth with no problem.

Jabonee my dad and I were talking and trying to figure out how the terminal may have become so corroded even though the tractor is not really exposed to the elements. I told him that you said Mahindras and water don't mix. Dad brought it up, and I had forgotten that after he dad shovels snow that he always likes to wash the tractor off with the garden hose to get any salt and dirt off of the tractor before he puts back into the garage. So his washing of the tractor probably contributed to the terminal corroding. :duh: Also he learned after talking with the mechanic that the PTO "engage" light was staying on as an indicator that there was a problem with the PTO (or the circuit).

And for any eMax owners out there that are not sure where the fuse box is; it is the black plastic box on the right hand side of the engine about 2 to 3 inches behind the radiator fan. You have to take the right side panel off of the tractor to access it. Below is a picture of the fuse box in our tractor.

So may you all have simple fixes for your Mahindra machines!
