I'm replacing the old emergency breakaway kit on my horse trailer. I bought the trailer used, so I didn't hook up the original one. It's a five wire trailer with red, white, black, blue and green.
My new control box and switch are made by "Carry-On" and it has an internal charger.
Instructions are as follow:
1. Connect the blue wire of the breakaway switch to the blue wire (battery positive) of the breakaway case.
2. Connect the black wire of the breakaway switch to the existing trailer brake wiring.
3. Connect the white wire (battery negative) of the breakaway case to the existing trailer ground wiring or ground directly to the frame.
4. Connect the black wire (charger) of the breakaway case to the tow vehicle battery hot lead.
I'm good with number 1 and 3, but:
#2, "the existing trailer brake wiring" is what color?
#4 "the tow vehicle hot lead" is what color? The fact that there is both red and black is confusing me.
Thanks, VA
