Have had the chance to use my TC45D's FWD a few times in first 40 hours. Love it!

Now for my question: The lever to engage/disengage the FWD it is stiff as stiff can be! Have read the owners manual, played with different combinations (nice & level, wheels straight, in neutral, in gear, etc..) but no help. A few times it has gone in / out of FWD easily, then it'll 'lock up'. Stiff enough I've worried about bending the lever. The next time I use it, it works fine.

Any suggestions, ideas, maintenance thoughts? I know the dealer is more than willing to come out and take a look if asked, but thought maybe I could save him a 30+ mile roundtrip.

Indiana Paul, when it doesn't want to go into FWD easily, have you tried moving the tractor just barely enough to say it moved, then tried again. At least that works on my Kubota. I never try to force the lever. If it doesn't slip in easily, I ease forward or backward - no more than an inch or two - and then it slips right in.

Indiana, I too had this problem originally and thought there must be something wrong. I tried and tried some time to disengage and too was afraid of bending the linkage. Then I read somewhere where all you have to do is lightly touch either the forward of reverse pedal, and then .... it moved like it was butter. Moral is, don't force it, just get a little motion going inside the tranny and it should slip right out. The same goes for engaging and disengaging the range I and II selector. Just a light touch of the pedal, and your home free.

I am not fimiliar with your model but on my TN-65 the lever pulls another lever that goes through the housing, it is possible the lever just seized in the housing, it happened on mine a couple times. No big deal you just hop under the tractor and spray the lever with a penetrating fluid like Kroil or PB blaster and work the lever in the housing with a wrench if it is siezed hard then work the lever on the platform until if works freely. If this is not the problem then call your dealer and they will come out and fix it right away and if anything should break it is their responsibility. Good luck

I gotta go with what a couple other responses said. Just hit the pedals a little bit. Seems if you get things lined up just right & not under stress they go right in & out with very little effort. Same with in & out of range I & II. I wouldn't force the lever though.

Guys:

Thanks for the input. Several of you mentioned just tapping the forward/reverse. I noticed that had seemed to do the trick before. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't "operator error" (who me?). As several of you also mentioned, I am not a big fan of forcing anything.....have broken to many things over the years.

Just to put my $.02 in. I have noticed on my TC33D when I try to engage the rear pto I have to notch forward to "easily" slide the lever - same with the FWA and gears. Hydro makes this an easy task too.
