I have a deere 2210 with 400 hours on it. It lives outside, the wife refuses to let it into the family room and it has been cold. The engine starts fine and runs well but this weekend when I engaged the hydostatic drive it died.I then tried with the PTO and again it died. I continued to run the engine for 45 minutes and finally the hydro static engaged. Any ideas? should I be worried?

I will bet you $1 your seat switch is frozen, or possibly one of the other safety switches. Running for the 45 minutes probably thawed it enough to let it stay running.

How cold was it? And do you know what type of hydraulic fluid is in your 2210? The J20C can get really, really thick at 0 degrees and below.

I could imagine that if you have the regular viscosity hydraulic fluid and pushed the hyd pedal down fairly quickly you could stall the engine.

I have the lo-vis in my tractor and a transmission heater - and even plugged in for 5-6 hrs - I very cautiously and slowly depress the pedal to get things moving when it's cold.

Deereman, somehow you need to get the machince warmed up so it thaws out. Chances are it is one of the safety switches stuck as the others have stated.

I thought it might be the hydraulics but the front loader is fine and I do depress the pedals to get things flowing so I think the safety switches are the problem so I will try warming them up with a hair dryer if it happens again.

I had a seat switch on a 4300 stuck and the engine would just crank
fast and would not start. and several times while driving, the engine
would die. I would push in on the switch with my finger and it would
run ok, until i would get on and off the tractor then it would stall again. I put a new switch on a couple of years ago and it's ok.

I agree with the others on a switch.

Hope this helps.

Don't tell the safety police but I finally gave up on my seat switch as the snow/ice/sticks/crud would build up under the seat until the switch couldn't engage reliably. I jumpered it out and now find that I can stand up when needed to see the front of the FEL when in a tight spot and have to creep ahead one or two inches....(or when I'm hooking up an implement and have to push the pedal to move 1/2" to engage the 3pth)

Deerman...
I have the same issue with my 2210. Mine is definitely that the seat and surrounding area freezes and the safety switch isn't triggered. After I sit on it for a few minutes and get up and down a few times, it engages and I can engage the hydro or pto. I'm using it as a good excuse with my wife that I can drink some more beer to put on some more weight this winter.
