I'm losing my patience with the wisconsin vh4d in my skid steer.

Do you guys know off hand if the bolt pattern on the vh4d is a standard?

The top holes are 4" apart

The bottom holes are 6" apart

The "bolt circle" is about 8 1/2"

I'm thinking of repowering with a 40hp kohler or vanguard.

down load the specifications of the possible re powers and check them out, usually there are drawings that one can down load if you have the main model number of the engine,

Are you looking for something like this by chance? Bobcat 610 Outdoor Power Equipment Repower from Small Engine Warehouse I googled "VH4D to Vanguard Kohler conversion" and found this results that way. You can also do a search for " repower XXXskid loader and probably find some direct information. Also, if you search "documents" here Wisconsin Motors | VH4D Engine Description & Specs , you can get the exact VH4D diminsions/measurments and compare them to the engines you are considering and see what is close.

Sort of.

The bobcat 610 uses a pulley, which makes life much easier.

On my Ford skid steer, the pump mounts to a bracket which bolts to the engine. Additionally, it has a coupler between the pumps splined shaft and the engines keyed shaft.

I cannot seem to find documents on the Kohler engines to determine if they are drilled and tapped for this bolt pattern.

Thanks!

Engine mounts are standardised according to SAE. in bigger engines, JD, Cummins, Sisu, SAE 1 and SAE 3 bellhousings are most popular.

Attached is an illustration of my setup. Is that Bell housing mount pattern an SAE type? Notice the two top bolts, the two bottom bolts wider apart. The circle is around 8".

If you have a good machinist /fabrication shop in your area, take them the info and the engine you desire to repower with, and if needed they may be able to make an adapter plate or modify the current mounting set up as well,

Its just a hydraulic pump, if you can get the sproket to go on the new engine with an adapter shaft or sleeve, you can build a new bell housing out of plate steel pretty easy.

My brothers neighbor had a Ford Sierra which he put new valves in after the timing belt broke. After a week, a valve broke, dropped into the engine and crashed it. Because he used to work at a Ford dealership and could show that he was fully qualified, Ford warranted him a new longblock. (block, running gear and heads, without manifolds turbo and fuel pump)
To fit a slightly newer Mondeo longblock (FWD) into the old RWD Sierra, he made a 4mm adapter flange to mate the engine to the transmission.

Too bad the turbo was bad, throwing oil into the intake and making the engine run away. you had to put it in 5th and brake hard to stall it, then let it cool for a minute, then you could proceed the trip.
