Alright, I did a search so I'm going to risk asking the question...

Does anyone use an engine hoist (the 2000lb type used to pull auto engines) to help align and hookup heavy 3pt implements? I haven't tried it, but it doesn't seem too ridiculous at first thought.

Cort, I use mine to lift my MMM to clean it all the time. I don't have anything that is too heavy for the rear that I need it for, but I think its a great idea! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Hi Cort,
If you have a concrete floored area to store and hook up your attachments, it would be a lot easier to use a dolly under your attachments to align and store them. Do a search for dolly or dollies, and you will find a lot of info on how to build and use them. Using a dolly will eliminate the need to pick up the implement in most cases.
If you are on gravel the dollies won't work very well unless you have large wheels, but then an engine hoist wouldn't work very well on gravel either.

I second Von.
I have a very small hoist that I picked up at an auction for $10 or 15 several years ago. Several people scoffed when I bought it because it wasn't big or strong enough in their opinions. Since then, I have used that hoist probably more then my big one. Basically, the big one only gets used to handle my racing engines. I have used this little hoist to haul around the 48"MMM off my JD lawn tractor and clean it. I also used it to pull the Kohler off my JD when I overhauled it, and I use it to mount the front snow blower on my JD. I've also used it to tote the 9" rear end out of the race car. It has 4 swivel casters with wheels about 5-6" in diameter and rolls very easily. Since I bought it, I have seen a couple of similar units in hospitals or nursing homes. I think they use them to lift patients in a sling from bed to chair to tub, etc.
Whatever it is, it sure is handy!
