JD has had my John Deere tractor for almost 3 weeks and just brought it back with a a serious problem that I will discuss later in another topic. Well... my engine light indicator came on the same date of arrival of the tractor, so the first thing I did was turn the engine off and check the oil. Well... there is hardly any oil on the dipstick. Pretty much zero!

When the driver picked up my tractor I had him sign a document with all the problems along with the hours indicated on the JD. I checked the oil and transmission fluids too.

When the tractor came back it had almost 10 additional hours on the tractor. The tractor went in for a PTO issue and electrical issues and water leak in the cabin.

Back to the dipstick. Where is the ok check mark for the oil level? My dipstick has two circle holes then two more circle holes to the right of the other two.

Also a nice oil stain on the brand new air ride seat. Yea! I am disappointed and man it feels like a nightmare since the purchase that I will post on another thread. But do I complain about the oil stain on the seat too? Didn't come from me and didn't leave that way either. I have about 47 hours on the tractor now.

maybe they ran it on a dyno for 10 hrs, pulling its guts out and it used some oil. I doubt the mechanic check the oil. as for the dipstick I would guess between holes the manual should explain that. good luck on the seat I would just clean it. Whats the serious problem?

I'll post the serious issues on a new thread. First I'd like to give JD an opportunity to fix the problems and if so I'll refrain from posting. But the manual gives no details what-so-ever about the dipstick. Its been a rough road and I've had the JD tractor for 8 weeks and 3 weeks of it in the shop.

You should add the tractor model to your info. I know which one it is, but not everyone can tell if they had not seen your earlier posts.

You think that's bad, wait until your warranty runs out and it starts falling apart. I have 650 hours on mine and I am trying not to use it for fear of something else breaking before I can trade it in (not on another Deere).

first thing you need to realize, JD ain't fixin your tractor the dealer is, big difference in the two.

I have a JD 5085 E CAB. I just got it out of the shop where its been sitting for almost 3 weeks. I have a flashing (!) red light and the bulb engine light coming on. Well... it was coming on. I checked everything over and noticed that the engine oil level was almost at the zero, the water coolant level was in the add and I corrected both thinking it would fix the problem. Took it out on the land drove it for 10 minutes and lights and bells starting ringing. Same thing again! However, within seconds the engine exhaust came on and started running in the clean mode. After about 1 1/2 hours it completed the cleaning session on the exhaust and the engine light has not come on again. (Crossing fingers)

I will run the tractor in the morning and see if I have a problem or not. Wish me luck guys. No, I'm not here to bit#% I'm here for help. Remember the JD manual is not that detailed and lacks informative information that should be shared to it's new proud owners.

The dealer when they picked up the tractor put almost 10 extra hours to the machine and didn't check the fluids prior to return as I havel each 10 hours. It is a new JD and I am in the break in period. I love John Deere and not going to give up on them. But man, 3 weeks in the shop and having an issue the very first day it comes back would make anyone feel disappointed.

On the warranty, I have the long extended version. Thanks to all who posted, it was really appreciated and for the most part I love the tractor. I just want to use it! ;)

Summer when crops are being harvested is a tough time for us to have a need for some dealer shop attention. Farmers want it now, need it now, and their crop can't wait or there are possible huge $$$ losses.
As well, new equipment in the 100's of thousands need to be made field-ready in short order so shop time is booked pretty solid.
Some of us with a couple tractors for lawn, or landscaping, etc. end up on the hind teat and undernourished, so to speak.

But that routine may not have the same bottleneck with the lawn and garden centers.

Oh I'm all for the big guys getting their equipment out. I waited 3 weeks to get mine back and not 1 single complaint made to the dealer about the wait time, even when I was told it would just be 2 weeks. Hopefully I will get the kinks knocked out and be back in action :)
