I was out mowin' and the engine Oil line got a hole in it and spray oil ALL OVER the tractor. I shut it down as soon as I seen it. It LOOKED like 1/8" line and no I didn't find the caliper to measure. I drove to town, went to NAPA,(their "kit" was $17 for line and couple of fittings and no union splice) got the 1/8" union connecters and extra ferrels $10, back home and the connectors won't go over the old tube for the splice. What gives, IS the plastic oil line not 1/8" , maybe METRIC? What size do I ask for? Any one else ran into this? I wanted just to splice it for temporary as I didn't want to have try to work up under the dash to replace the line at the guage, my hands just don't fit up there as well as tryin' to see what is up there to begin with. bjr

Do yourself a favor and go buy 1/8" copper to replace that plastic line. That's what I always do.

I'd suggest unhook the line from what ever fitting is available and try one of the new connectors to assure the threads are the same. No sense in buying the material and bending up a copper line with u.s. standards fittings if they are metric.
That being said, sometimes that plastic line swells from heat and pressure so it may just be a "force fit" or replacing the entire line, like it or not.
Did you contact a dealer with questions about line size? IMHO that would be the first step.

It's aftermarket guage and connections. No dealer support for this tractor. bjr

My previous post still holds true. It needs to be determined if the fittings are SAE or Metric, or a complete replacement is in order. the only other option is plug the fitting at the engine to prevent oil loss.

i bought some gauge sets (oil, temp, amps) from princess auto (hf) for$8.00 ea. the fittings for the oil sender all appear to be 1/8 npt.

i think using copper on anything that vibrates is a bit chancy, but you never know... it might outlast the tractor:)

I wouldn't use copepr on a fuel line.. but I've used them on oil lines to replace plastic and had good luck. that said.. most palces that sell the lower end gauges.. etc.. sell a kit with line ( plastic or copper ).. and sae and metric adapters.. usually 10$ or so.. I think sunpro is one of them ..

that or get a 1/8 to 1/8 brass union at the hardware store and stick her back together.

Nylon lines might come with a lot of mechanical oil pressure gauge kits, but that doesn't mean they are the best material. Copper is not affected by heat to the same degree nylon is, and oil temperatures are always higher than coolant temperatures after a bit of running. Take a look at the first product listed in this website Nylon Tubing | High Temperature Semi-Flexible Tubing | Tubing Materials | Grayline Inc. The operating temperatures for it are from -68C to 140C. (-90F to 284F), the rest all list a maximum of 100C (212F).

I wouldn't want to bet all the kits on the market are going to have a good high temp rated nylon tube in them, considering the source of many (China). Think about what a spray of HOT OIL would do to you...and how easy it is to reduce that possibility with the use of a nice little CHEAP copper tube. Copper also has the benefit of being fairly rigid once formed into place, nylon is a springy thing that has to be securely fastened to prevent abrasion against anything, even flat pieces of steel.

I agree.. I'd go copepr and them secure it so it didn't vibrate if i could. heck.. I've run copper 1/8 capilary line thru 3/16 fuel line, and use dthat as anti vibration and friction material.
