Massey Ferguson 184-4
Just wondering if anyone has ever heard of putting Lucas Oil Treatment in a tractor. I have a massey 184 with a perkins 4.236.
Theres nothing wrong with it, only 3000 hrs but I figured that I could put it in now as a preventative measure, reduce wear etc.
Can it go in tractors and have you ever done it? I have put it in diesel trucks before and it makes them run alot better, quieter etc.
Thanks

do you know your massey engine oil specs as they apply to avail modern oils? would think if you could properly match them no oil treatment would be necessary given quality of oil packages these days. if you're taking care of fuel & mechanical maintenance you should be fine. wont even venture an opinion on oil additives, but bet you get plenty on this thread fuel additives are a different story, i use them good luck

Modern oils already have all the additives you need in them. More additives might do more harm as your oil might have additives which are not compatible with Lucas, etc.

The only ones needing oil additives are those selling them.

I use it in all my old diesels, partly because i cant get 20\50 wt in a diesel oil,so i use 15\40+1qt. stablizer. The heavier viscoity does make them sound better.I use pan heaters to off set modifying the muli-grade oil.

i have been driving semi trucks for over 25 years and some truckers swear by lucas i ve used it myself with no bad effects in truck diesals and my tractors ford 4610 and case ih 485 havent seen any negative effects engine ran smoother and biggest advantage is eliminates dry starts cause it clings to the internal parts of the engine where just oil drains down into pan i would say use it but we are talking about small farm tractor engines not semi trucks that hold 40 quarts and more so i would talk to a mechanic thats been working on your brand of tractor for along time before using it
