I have 180hrs on my M6040 and I pulled the dipstick and it barely registered. No leaks in the garage, or on the motor anywhere. It does not smoke other than at startup. Some soot on the FL after a few hours of hard work. Any ideas. Where did the oil go?

Say a few rosaries and check the coolant, hope the oil isn't going there. Rub rag on inside of exhaust pipe after it's running hot. It will be dirty but it shouldn't be damp oil or heavily sooty. Leave it running for awhile on the garage floor; it might only leak when you have pressure.

When was the last time you checked the oil, and are you absolutely sure it wasn't a little short on oil since last oil change?
If something is wrong with the engine, surely Kubota will stand behind the warranty.

When was the last time it was known to be full? The way your post reads, it sounds like this is the first time it's been checked in 180 hours. Tell us that is not the case.

Most engines will use some oil at break-in, it is not unusual at all to go through a quart at this time or possibly two depending on the size of the engine. Your engine is far from broken in at 180 hours.

When diesels are working hard, [which is what tractor's do], some oil use is normal overtime. Regular checking at dipstick will give the operator knowledge of when to add oil. I would not worry unless you find the engine is using excessive oil.

Oh no, it is not the case. I have changed the oil already myself. All was good. It was I guess 50-60 hours since I checked it. My dealer has told me to check the bell housing, there is a drain under there that he showed me. This weekend I will check to see if oil comes out. If it does he says it may be the crank shaft seal.

I was also 2.5 gallons low on my hydraulic oil, my ram on my disc leaks a little bit but not much at all. I noticed my FEL bouncing a little when I started up. Could it leak that much hyd oil? I guess after I get this taken care of I need to check the oil every stinkin time I use it.

It's not in the coolant that I can see. There is no signs of oil anywhere on the motor or tranny area. I try to keep it as clean as I can all the time.

Keep an eagle eye on the engine. That tier 2 engine should use only a minimum of oil. If you've had a lot of cold short runs esp at break in there might be some oil consumption. Try to work it as much as you can right now, I like to keep mine loaded around 2000-2300 rpm even though the hp will max at 2600. That new engine wants to be worked right now with different steady tasks. And let it warm up at least 10 min before the work load. I think you'll be okay. bb
