Hi
Is there a good way to check the performance of an injector? The engine starts to run rough when it reaches a certain rpm or a load is put on the engine. It seems to run smooth at Idle. Looking for some possibilities before I tear into it. I noticed the change in the engine sound while I was using it to move some dirt a couple of days ago and it was late so I just put the tractor in the shed and haven’t got back to it. It’s a ford model 1920 year 1995 with just over 400 hours I purchased it last fall and I haven’t obtained a set of service manuals for it, looks like I will be buying some soon. My first thought is an injector is dirty. If that were the case would it be better to buy a new injector or clean the dirty injector. If cleaning is a solution what is the best method to perform the task. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Charlie.

I guess we can assume you have checked/replaced the air cleaner, but how about the muffler? a clogged muffler can cause that problem. You might also try an injector conditioner/cleaner called "Power Service" the guys have been talking about recently.

Also, have the fuel filter/s been changed since you got the tractor ?

How about something as simple as bad fuel? If you can drain it all out into a clean caan so you can reuse it if replacing it with new fuel doesn't fix your problem. I have an older version of the service manual for the 1920/2120 models so if there is something specific you want to know perhaps I can be of help.

Could also be valve adjustment is getting out of spec. since it seems to happen at higher rpm. most are solid liffters and should be adjusted after sufficent time for break in.

400 hours on that 1920 isn't anything.. mine has twice that +.

I run power service year round in mine.. you might try some. I would also change the fuel and filter that is currently in it.

You will have to bleed the lines.. and the bleed procedure is.. you guessed it.. in the manual.

These 1920's are real sensitive on air filters as someone else mentioned... Mine will go through 2 in real dusty conditions, per oil change interval.

Also check that radiator vent screen.. if it gets plugged up, the engine warms up fast..

Hi
Checked the screen behind the radiator, it was clean.
Went to the dealer today bought a new fuel filter, they didn't have the air filter element. check on the price of new injectors and I passed out $155.61 each. I'm still in shock. but they said they could check all 4 in about 30 min. the charge is $70.00/hr. I sure hope its just a minor problem like the fuel filter,I hate to take out another loan. buying tractor parts is like buying drugs, you might need a second job.

If there is anybody on TBN that used brinker tractor in arnold Mo. for tractors and tractor parts you can get the tractors, parts and service at the ford dealer on hwy 67 about 4 miles south of festus. They are also now a Kubota dealer.

while I was there took a look at the rtv 900 looks good next time i go there I think I will take one fer a spin.

Hi
I got around to changing the fuel filter and air filter today and that seems to have fixed the problem. the fuel filter bowl was full of water. You would think ford would install a drain on the filter bowl. I think I might add a small Accumulator with a drain between the tank and the filter bowl so i can drain the water before each use.

Lazy, maybe you should always fill your tank when you finish using the tractor and get a funnel like I bought that filters out water from your fuel can as you put it in the tractor. It's called Mr. Funnel and really won't let water/trash into your tractors fuel tank. I agree, there should always be a drain, but a lot of tractors don't have them. John
