My NH L175 skid steer has the following starting procedure posted in it:

As I understand the decal, that procedure applies even when the temperature is below freezing. The note does go on to say that below freezing, the RPM should be kept to less than 1500. It is a turbocharged, diesel engine. It is the only turbocharged diesel I have.

I am used to just cracking the throttle or starting in idle. One-third throttle movement easily exceeds 1500 rpm. Is that procedure typical for turbocharged diesels?

NH dealer has not been of any help.
