Crazyal, would a 392 have fit? Those old IH 6 cylinders were not fast engines, but talk about a torque monster...

I have dreams of stuffing a turbo charged chevy/detroit 6.2L (have spares) in to an '88 ext cab 4x4 S-10 I have in storage... with an OD auto trans behind it, 20+ mpg should be possible, with no computers or emissions equipment needed. Parts are waiting... good project with the kids in a few years.

The 446 is a gas engine based on their v8 diesel they also sold at the time. It's still a torque monster. I looked for a 392 but they are getting old and hard to find without needing to be rebuilt. I was hoping that the 446 was a 392 so I didn't look that closely before bidding on it.

Which diesel? My loadstar has a DV550 v8 diesel built off the 549 gas v8. Was their another of that lineage?

I've been told that the MV line of engines, the 6.9 and 7.3 were also the foundation for their IDI Diesel engines. I'm not sure which came first though.

To put a Detroit into a pickup, you must have ears made of steel. I have been around my share of engines and none of the scream like a Detroit.

LOL especially one that's straight piped with a jake brake.
