Erosion Protection w/Big Rocks

Here are some pictures of a small rock project to stabilize a STEEP hillside where I've cut in a driveway on our property where we will be building.

It's amazing how much heavier rocks are now than when I first did work like this 30 years ago.

Fortunately, I have a Power-Trac PT-425 that gets the rocks from the pile to where they are rolled, slid, or thrown down the slope.

I managed to only lose about 5% of them down the hill in the woods. Since most weigh about 80 to 100 lbs., I think they look fine down there!

Here are some of the larger ones along the top edge that I placed to ensure that my vehicle is damaged BEFORE rolling it off the edge in during the winter. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Funny how is doesn't look like much in the photos, but this is just over 50 tons of rock (which I bought) and another 10 or so tons from the site.

Only another 10-15 tons to go! The slope is about 35 feet from top to the bottom of the rocks, and over 90 feet long.

Related, but a different project - - here is a small road for tractor access to the rest of the property for fire mitigation and hauling of timber cut for sawing. Some of the rocks in previous photos came from this area.
