No snow yet.

Forecast is for Sat., Sunday, & Tuesday with levels possibly reaching the lowest foothills. I swore I would not go through another winter like this. After last season, I ended up purchasing a Case W11B. It's sole purpose was/is to be constantly "at the ready" in case of a major break down. I guess we will be running the W11B right out of the gate...

The saga continues...Yet another update on the Error Code 50-56.

After leaving one of my TC's with the dealer for over 2 months this summer they felt they had found a solution for the error code. The dealer isolated the wires (2 wires referenced by the code) and ran new wires from the Drive Controller to the Dash Controller. It ran just fine for 7 hours and then the Error Code 50-56 came back. Unfortunately, this time I'm not able to reset the code after disconnecting the wiring harness from the two controllers, and reassembling which I was able to do previously which would allow me to get the TC on a trailer. No amount of starting and shutting off will reset the code which will not allow the TC to be moved. The TC is dead in the water so to speak. As a side note, the dealer also changed out both CPU's and no luck.

I'm posting this update for the benefit of all, but also to let everyone know that there is a way to tow the TC (B series, not sure about the others) which I was not aware of until this most recent reoccurrence. There are a set of special bolts you can purchase that will allow you to tow the TC. It's not as simple as that. There is a procedure that is outlined in the service manual under Towing in the first few pages on the manual. The bolts are being shipped UPS and will arrive tomorrow. Hopefully I can get it on the trailer and to the dealer. I'll report back and let everyone know how big of a PIA it turns out to be...

Thanks for the update. Good Luck and keep us posted.

Another Error Code 50-56 Update

I'm hesitant to say that the problem has been completely resolved for fear I may jinx myself The repeated Error Code (50-56) references a failure in communications between the CPU in the Dash Console and the Drive CPU mounted on the rear cab firewall. After my dealer had the TC for over 2 months, the Bobcat Engineers instructed my dealer to isolate the two wires in question. The dealer did as instructed and installed two wires outside of the wiring harness. At that point it appeared the issue was resolved indicating that the ongoing problem was indeed in the new wiring harness. After retrieving the TC, I prepped it for winter and delivered it to that units Driver. I asked the Driver to run the unit each day to see if indeed the problem had been corrected. Over a period of several weeks the Driver started the TC and drove it around adding 7 hours to the clock. When I delivered the TC to the Driver it was outfitted with a bucket. We typically run buckets the first storm or two until all of the pine needles, junk, toys, rocks, etc. have been either picked up or pushed out of the way.

That particular Driver does not like the Bucket and prefers the Blower. The Driver asked that if he went to each of his contracts and blew off all the debris, could he start off with the Blower instead. Last weekend he informed me he had blown off each driveway and removed any possible items that might damage the blower. I serviced his Blower and delivered it to his home. After pulling the blower off the truck and putting his bucket back on the truck, I connect all the hydraulic lines and the 7 pin electrical connection. The TC immediately coded again. No amount of disconnecting and reconnecting would allow the TC to be moved one inch.

As I had posted earlier, the dealer shipped me the special bolts to allow us to tow/winch the TC onto a trailer. Due to a substantial change in the forecast from the National Weather Service I scrapped that idea and had the dealer travel to the TC. After several hours of changing out both CPU's and multiple tests the tech gave up and decided to install the bolts to winch the TC onto a trailer and go back to the dealer. When we disconnected the Blower from the TC, all of a sudden the error code disappeared!

In the final analysis the Error Code (this time) was due to the fact that the Bobcat Engineers instructed the dealer to isolate the communication wires from the harness but failed to mention that connected to the two communication wires was an additional wire which runs to the 7 pin connection allowing the Dash Console CPU to recognize the circuit board on the Blower causing the same communication error. At this point an additional wire has been run reconnecting the communication wires to the wire running to the 7 pin connection and we hope and pray this has resolved the problem. Just to be clear, the problem was twofold. One issue in the faulty wiring harness, and one new issue from the isolation of the communication wires. Sorry for the long post. I felt it important to document all of this. Hopefully, if someone else has the same or similar problem you won't need to spend literally thousands of dollars and immeasurable frustration finding a solution.

Thanks again for the detailed report. Seems that there are so few of these in the field, that many of us are de-bugging them ourselves so it's good to document the issues and the resolution here.

In the last 2 months, my dealer has sold 6 Toolcats and he was surprised to find out that he is now ranked the 3rd highest Toolcat selling dealer in the country. And this is in Craig, Colorado (off the beaten path). He's 115 miles away from me.

I broke the end off my 7 pin connector, leaving only the pins. I got this code when I plugged it in. After reading the great discussion here, I found the piece that broke off, realized I must have put them in the wrong sockets, and corrected the problem. Knock on wood, the error has not reappeared.
