It's so cold the impeller froze on my 2-stage, belt drive snowblower (for my 20hp White) while clearing snow this evening. This has happened to me in the past when the blower shuts off when I used to reverse. I disabled that safety and this is the first time it has happened since then. Problem is, this time it obliterated the belt - in the past the impeller just wouldn't turn.

Someone tell me I won't have this problem with a shaft drive rear-mount blower on my BX? Has anyone every have the impeller freeze on their blower

Never had anything freeze on any of my tractor blowers....... not the impeller, not the chute rotation, not the chute deflector.

I have newer Kubota blower. It was so cold that ....

My manual chute rotater is so stiff, could barely move the chute.

Where are you weather??

Early in the season I tip my blower back to pick up less stone. Any melt will pool in the fan drum between uses, so I have to be careful that it does not freeze the fan. Hasn't happened yet so I'm not sure if I would notice when I engage the PTO. I'll drill a drain hole next summer.

My chute deflector freezes on a regular basis :p but the impeller freezing is rare.

GarthH: We are in Southern Ontario, about an hour west of Toronto - just west of Waterloo. We don't quite get the super cold temps you do out in Sask, or the snow-eater winds... burrr... makes me even colder thinking about it.

My walk behind blower will freeze the 2nd stage if you put it away with snow in the chute. The engine warmth will soften it up and Bingo! You are chipping the next time.

Just learn to run the blower and bounce it a few times to loosen and shoot out any left over snow before shutting it down. At least that worked for me.

I haven't had the blower freeze but concur with chute turning resistance. When I'm finished plowing I turn off the tractor with the blower raised and sweep out the inside. Someone here once shared a tip to keep ice from forming at the auger bearings and gear box. I like to make sure the blower is clear and chute gear is uncovered.

We had minus 29C here this week plus a healthy windchill and blower took it in stride. It is parked inside when not in use though. Good luck with your equipment decision.
