I am lookin for a good used rotary cutter and stumbled across this Bush Hog. I thought it was a model 306 but the data plate says 600.
Does anyone know the specs on this? Ever heard of it?
Im trying to find out its ratings and what min HP it needs.

Not 100% positive but I believe this was a early heavy duty version of SQ600 or squealer 600.

No idea on gear box rating though.

The 600 probably refers to 60" aka 5'.
That is how my Woods model is called.

That is a rugged bushhog, I would buy it in a heart beat. Mine is 60 years old and that one is built more rugged than what I have, though it has the same gearbox.

I wouldn't overthink this. Implements are generally given a horsepower or drawbar pull per width ratio, and while it is on the upper end, my little 25 HP Kubota L series handles a 6 foot bush hog just fine.

Use what you got, or what you can find (assuming the purchase is not overpriced of course).

Thanks for the help Broken Track. I agree it’s a heavy duty hog that will do some serious work. Just want to make sure I can still get parts and that I’m rated to haul it.
Can’t seem to find any literature.

I don't think you'll need it.

Last year...after 60 years of abuse...the ears on my gearbox busted off so I was determined to rebuild it. You just cannot find well-made bushhogs (or any rough cut mower...I use the term bushhog for this sort of mowing), so I set out to rebuild mine.

The gearbox was so thick, that we just ended up machining off part of the gearbox case, fabricating a new collar for it, and welding it back on. Then while we were there redid the bearings inside, and because they are standard get-anywhere-bearings, that was easy and had a newly rebuilt bushog for $300. No Bushhog Brand parts needed!!

Now it sounds crazy, $300 for a 60 year old implement when a new one is $600???

But if the old one lasted 60 years and proved itself to be robust, $300 for new condition is a bargain! I dont think you can go wrong on this Bushog deal, assuming the person is not asking an outlandish price.

What was the asking price???

$700. I know its rated heavy enough. Just wanted to know the min HP needed. Cant find any literature.
I’m planning on doing some real brush hogging. Up to 1.5” brush.

You might considering renting an excavator with a mulching head on it. It is expensive, but puts the repair costs on the rental company, and not a bad deal since they can tackle bigger stuff then 1.5 inches.

That is pretty hearty stuff to be beaten down by a bushog in my opinion. One major breakdown and renting would be a cheaper option.
