The machine I preordered a couple months ago arrived this week. This is a brand new model and there is zero info on the web about it. I figured I’d post up here since my thread about it on WW is gone.

It arrived in perfect condition due to the excellent packaging.
I had to wait until today to play with it due to needing to finish up its throne at the top of my new ZTFab welding cart.

I TIGd the cart together with the Syncrowave 200. I copied Jody’s process as well as I could, and it turned out pretty well. I’m no welder, I just play around in the garage, but I can honestly say I didn’t cheat and use the Mig at all. I did use silicon bronze filler for the non-structural parts, so it’s technically brazed ;). That stuff makes a beginner TIG welder like me look like I know what I’m doing. I actually got to where I could run a couple of pieces of filler rod without duffing the tungsten.

Anyway the new welder seems to work well, and the gun is pretty nice, but I do have to deduct points for the manual that comes with it.
The manual doesn’t really explain what any of the advanced settings do. It just kind of mentions that it has pulse and double pulse modes, but no info on pros and cons, recommend settings, etc.

So I played around with the different modes and settings on some 1/4” and 1/2” plate coupons using .035 solid wire. I got it welding pretty nicely on mig mode with 75/25. Then I started playing with the pulse and double pulse modes. Here is where I was surprised. Apparently, those are really pulsed spray transfer modes. The noise the arc makes sounds like busted bassoon; nothing like a standard mig sizzling sound. I found that the arc would occasionally seem to go out very briefly and I was getting a little too much spatter while using the pulse mode.
While waiting on this welder, I also bought a bottle of 90/10 on the hopes of doing some spray transfer. So I switched over to the 90/10, and the those problems mostly disappeared.
The left bead is 75/25 gas and the right is 90/10. Everything else stayed the same. 250A and 20% on time. I don’t remember exactly what the voltage was set to though.

Does this seem correct? I know it’s not a great bead, but is does show much less spatter.
In the pulse modes, it only lets me run it in synergic mode, where in standard mig, I can set it manually or to synergic mode.
I can’t find too much on the web about pulse/double pulse mig settings. I know a few of the guys here could have this thing humming along perfectly in 5 minutes, but there are so many adjustments that it takes me quite a while to get it dialed in.
I’m very happy with the machine thus far and I think it has all the features that won’t leave me wishing I bought a nicer machine a couple years down the road. When I get some more time, I’ll burn some stick rods and see how it does.

3Lfarm are you left handed, or right handed? If right handed, try starting the weld on the right side, and weld towards the left. That is called pushing.

What length of stick out are you running? With Mig, I run about 3/8 to 7/16-inch.

Nice welder. Up until recently I had a shop I could go to and have use of a welder if it wasn't in use, or just have whatever welded for a case of beer... That situation recently met an unfortunate end and so I'm getting myself setup to tend to such things on the farm. I had decided on the Everlast 210 Mig, but after calling them, they told me it has been discontinued. They offered a pretty good discount on the next model up, so I am waiting on my 230i to arrive from Everlast. UPS says it will arrive Friday.

Yes for pulse you need the 90/10 or 95/5 or 98/2 depending upon the metal. For aluminum, 100% Ar. 75/25 will give you too much spatter because it isn't meant for spray.

Thanks! I’m right handed. I normally push right to left, but with the pulse settings, pulling left to right seemed to do a little better.
The welder didn’t come with any .035 contact tips, so I used a .035 tip from the Lincoln. It sits recessed inside the nozzle about 1/8” and I was trying to keep about 3/8 to 1/2” stickout past that for the pulse. The arc jet was about 3/8”. I don’t know how long of an arc I should be trying to achieve there.

I need to order some .035 of the heavy duty tips and a set of knurled drive rolls to try out a spool of .035 dual shield wire. Anybody ever try to pulse weld dual shield?

What tips did you get? Mine came with .035", but the .045" ones will work as well for that as they are

It came with two .030”, two .040” and one 1.2mm. That one doesn’t have a inch measurement on it. The math says .047”, so I guess it for .045 wire.

Each roller has two grooves. If you look some are U shaped groove and some are V groove. You should have a .035" roller. (.9mm) The tip itself isn't as important as .040" is just fine for .035".

I have the correct rollers. I’ll try the .040 tip. Thanks.
