I'd like to get a home use plasma cutter and arc stick welder. I'm unsure on whether a tig or mig is better for me using around the place doing tractor stuff, projects, and general creating or repairing "inventions".

I have arc, mig, torch, and a little plasma experience and some classes but never made a living welding. I have no equipment now.

I've seen the 3in1 245 and read the reviews. The price seems relatively low.

Mark, sir can you send me a quote delivered to 74966? Along with whatever I need to get it working? I have 110/220 in my shop.

I'm hesitant about the 3 in 1 concept though. If one part fails, then I lose the whole machine until repairs are made. But I like the small footprint in a 26x30 shop where space is a premium.

I'd like to get anyone's inputs and or recommendations good or bad if possible.

Stay under a couple grand all in. (We all know where that will go though) I definitely want a plasma cutter and stick at least though and expect 10 years home use out of them.

Thanks,
Lenny

You might want to look at the Power Plasma 50 and the Power Arc 200 units. Both are small units and work very well. Both units should be well with in your price range.
I have PP50 and a PA140 and both work nice and have been trouble free.

It doesn't get the OP MIG, but seems like a good option.

The MTS 211Si, or the 251Si? We've no 245. Just let me know.

205? With MIG?

I was asking about Tig or Mig. That one was Tig.
Do you recommend something different that may fit better for I describe I want to do with it?

I just called Mark when I was thinking I wanted another welder.

MIG goes a lot quicker than TIG for me. TIG seems to require a bit more skill than I have developed, I need to practice.

The MIG, TIG, Stick units are a great option. I'd recommend a plasma separately. But with the MIG TIG and Stick units, you don't have all the extra circuits that a TIG stick plasma does. Just figure out how much power you need. Likely a MTS 211Si would do the job.

TIG is a clean process. Tractor stuff is kind of inherently dirty & nasty.

I have more skill (but not a lot) in TIG, but move over to stick when dealing with stuff I just want to get welded, but can't or won't clean up well as prep.

I'd also recommend at looking at dedicated units rather than a compromise unit that kluges several functions together. Easier to maintain, repair & use separate machines in the long run.
