exhaust manifold leak question

I have a 1994 MF 231 2wd tractor. There is black oil leaking from the front port of the exhaust manifold.

Is this just a matter of changing the gaskets and/or exhaust manifold or both? Is there anything else I should be concerned with?

The tractor will give you one big puff of blue smoke when you crank it and a small blue puff if you pour the coal to it so to speak...meaning if you are at idle or low rpm and you give it a lot of throttle and significantly increase the rpm....otherwise does not smoke.

Usually and hopefully it's just a matter of changing the gasket. I would start there. If it is still leaking, you could have a warped a manifold. For good measure, I would smear some that orange rev sealant on there. Can't remember what color sealant itnis

Check to make sure none of the metal surface on the head exhaust has deteriorated. Another member here had a Z145 that had been leaking for so long it ate away some of the exhaust mounting surface on the head and had to build it back up with JB Weld. Then he could get a tight seal from the head to manifold.

It could be as simple as cleaning the surfaces up and installing a new head to exhaust manifold gasket. -kid
