Does anyone know why when I was shooting the paintball gun, a paintball exploded in the hopper? Overheating?

If by "Hopper" you mean toilet.
PLEASE don't shoot paint balls into it.

From what I have been reading without much experience.

First look to see if you chopped a ball and it squirted back up into the hopper.

Second, how old is your paint, and what quality is it. Some of the better balls are more fragile, and thus more prone to damage.

Third, with any manufactured product, you could have just got an odd defective one. I like to put things into context sometimes. Say you bought a case of Monster balls 2000 and had 2 break in your hopper that were defective. Their failure ratio was really good, by most manufacturing standards, but if it was your hopper they broke in it still sucks.

What kind of gun/marker is it? It is not uncommon to have a ball reak in the hopper. It could be that you chopped a ball or that you had blow by and it pushed the balls back up the feed neck and broke a ball. Is it a repetative problem?

It's a Spyder. I've only made alot of shots twice, and it's only happened once. I've shot alot, but not as much as these two times.

Spyders are notorious for blowback into the hopper and it helps to have a longer feedneck and /or shoot rapid bursts and not long strings of shots.

I really don't know anything about them. I just got it for Christmas. At least now I know that it's fairly common and I most likely don't have a major problem.

Wait till you get barrell explosions and then they start shooting out and going sideways... gotta love that!

Last Thursday we played, between 7 of us, we went through about 9000 rounds.

I think I was the only one with a hopper break or blowback.

My son, shot my buddies 98 down the barrell, it was hilarious (at least from our standpoint) he was thinking he had chopped a ball till we pointed out he was shooting green, and the paint down in the base of his barrell was pink.

Tons of fun though, we really had a great time.
