So this poly stuff you say scrapes pretty good then huh? Proboly similar to urethance edges maybe like people use on there plows? Hmm I need a new edge for my western plow and after seeing what you did here and the cheap price, i think I'll try one. I take it you had to drill the holes in the plastic to bolt to the plow correct? How hard was it?

Re: Extended 54\" Blade to 66\" with UDPE Wear Strip

For a larger (heavier) plow, I would go with 1" thick.

I used a circular saw with a general purpose carbide blade to cut it to width and bevel the edge. I clamped a straight edge to the piece to get a nice straight cut. A table saw would have worked great had I had one handy.

You could just leave the bottom edge un-finished. it would quickly wear to be level to the pavement.

Regular twist drill bits went through easily. The material is not brittle at all - much more "plastic"

I used the old steel wear edge as a template for the holes.

I used nylon locking nuts on the back side because you really can't thighten the bolts to maximum. The heads just kind of pull themselves in, like you were tightening down on some soft wood. As the plastic relaxes the tension on the bolts, I didn't want the nuts coming loose and falling off. The carriage-headed bolts I used had a square shoulder under the head. I drilled the holes sized for the threaded portion of the bolt and the square shoulder dug itself in enough to provide the tightening torque.

I have also seen heavier-duty setups where a metal strip is used to clamp the plastic or rubber edge. The old steel wear edge might make a good clamp to hold the plastic edge in.

The whole thing took maybe 3 hours, including cutting the other pieces and curving them to the face of the plow.

Hi Keeny,

Saw your post from a few years ago. How has your modification holding up? I want to extend the width on my blade for my 2320. (I wish John Deere made something bigger :(:( )

Thanks,
BILL

I had a local welder I know extend mine to 66", plus add 4" to the top and extend the A-frame 6". I got to try it out twice this week and it works great. Much better than before. As for the cutting edge, I just ordered 1/2" x 4" UHMWPE bar stock and will be installing it next week. Hopefully we'll get some snow next week so I can try out the new cutting edge.
