I saw an article yesterday that a Volvo Trucks won a lawsuit that Pro transportation, Inc had filed against them. Seems Pro bought 200 new trucks from Volvo and had mucho engine problems. The article said an oil company guaranteed Pro if they used their oil they could go long and hard between oil changes. Guess it didn't work. Didn't say who the oil company was but a little research might bring it out.

So far nothing in the article I have seen state anything to do with extended oils at all.

So far it states, "The suit alleges that Pro's problems with the tractors included "breakdowns and failures with their injector cups, engine valves, turbo chargers, leveling rods, water pumps and other components."

"The suit stated that Pro, all the while, relied on assurances from Volvo that the problems with the trucks "were correctable and not the result of an inherent design or manufacturing defect."

In another online site I think something was state from pro-guard oil filters...I think.

In the recent issue of Star magazine, an article in there states that the current oil change recommendation from Benz (with Mobil 1) is 13k miles. They said they do that because some customers will go past that to maybe 15k miles. They were comfortable with that but would not go to 15k miles because they'd be uncomfortable with 17k mile changes.

My current Benz recommendation is 5k miles. Been doing it in 3k with dino. Will go to 5-6k miles on Mobil 1. The Tacoma recommendation is 7.5k miles (on a gas engine). Been doing 3k on it with dino and plan on 5-6k miles on Mobil 1. With these extended changes (but not past the manufacturer's recommendation, which would also cover the filter's ability), Mobil 1 will pay for itself with 3-4% fuel savings.

Mobil 1 can go, and should be able to, go longer then 6K miles. Also if you are doing what the manufacture states, it is not EDI at all. I would like to see if you really get the mpg savings. I have yet to see it in any oil I have used. Plus I thought the MB has the Flexible Service System which monitors the system.

The article that mentions the oil change intervals is at www.ardemgaz.com in the 01/24/05 issue. I saw the article you quoted too. I've written a letter to the trucking company hoping they will tell me who the oil company was.

Mobil has announced that it will be introducing an Extended Performance M1. Guaranteed 15,000 mile or 1 yr. Accompanying the new oil will be a line of ED filters. These products should be availible in a few weeks. Read more at BITOG or the following link. Mobil 1 Extended Perfomance

So Round #2 for Mobil here.

Mobil had 1-year or 25K mile oil about 15+ years ago. Then they stopped the long drains. Now they are coming back out, yet again with a new oil to do longer drains (approx 15K). I think it is just there normal group 4 with more adds in it.

Also I do not know if I like the, "While ExxonMobil recommends that you use a high-quality filter, you can use the same type of oil filter that you would normally use with conventional oil......."

they are doing what Amsoil has done for over 25-years; but Amsoil never stopped. The CATCH here is like Amsoil says. Amsoil says "up to 25K" and most time the max, 25K miles is ideal conditions.

Same with Mobil EP oil. They state, "Mobil 1 Extended Performance is recommended for up to 15,000-mile or one-year oil change intervals...."Doing the same "up to" deal.

"Been doing 3k on it with dino and plan on 5-6k miles on Mobil 1."

Ralph, I'm sure you can run more than 5-6K on the M1, do a used oil analysis on your next change and see what it looks like. I'm running 7-8K and may go to 10K. Both cars are daily commuters with 40 - 60 mile round trips at highway speeds.

I switched to Mobil 1 and can verify increased MPG. 3.2 miles more per gallon. Plus extended OCI, which translate into time saved for me. This is by the onboard computer calculating the MPG not me.

I know gsxr1100 has stated he has never seen the MPG increase, but he has also stated that he changes to Amsoil as soon as he gets a vehicle. He has no opportunity to see the MPG increase.

agree- I switch early in the game to prevent wear.

But what I do not get is if you are getting 3.2 MPG more. All I am saying is that seems WAY off.

Last I remeber is that Amsoil's Best Seriess 3000 oil was only (up to 8.3%, not mpg). So this fluid is min 22.2 % better or Max is 61% better. Something does not seem right.
